How many of you that own Cabs wish you got coupes and vise versa.

My story (condensed ver.). I drove a 51 and got bitten by the Porsche bug. The style of the 44/51 was nice but didn’t fully do it for me. Saw the refined 68 and my mind was made up.

I only came across one cab during my search. As I looked at it with the top up I was turned off, didn’t like the lines back at the trunk. Had to be a coupe for me. Now that I have my coupe, when I see a cab/ top down, I’m envious. The lines really come together when you drop the top and cover it. Add a wind screen and it makes the car look very modern. Sure I can remove my roof and I do enjoy that but its not the same.

So is it just a case of grass being greener on the other side?

Or perhaps it’s just the few nice days we had earlier this week.

Had 2 911 coups and 1 968 cab. Prefer the cab. Like they say,"there is no substitute".

Maybe they were talking about going through the gears on a spring day, shifting up @ 7,200 rpm? The sound the sun and the wind that you get in a cab are simply not available in a coupe. Isn't the reason that you own a 968 for the experience of driving it?

If it was a track car than a coupe otherwise I always own ragtops.

Nice avitar Rhude, <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I have an old vert (68 camaro), so my decision for a coupe was easy. I agree, with the top down these cars look exotic.

Cab in the garage for Beautiful Days...Miata for every day. Always a ragtop (and popup headlights, but let's not get that started...LOL)

I was drawn to the cab for two reasons...

1.) I had recently given my Miata to my folks for a weekend car, so I was missing my top down drives, and

2.) The 968 coupe, while a good looking car, didn't have enough significant styling evolution from the 944 other than the headlights and the rear tail. Still looked "run of the mill", but the cab, as someone else stated, looked more exotic, especially with the top down.

Now that said, I would love to have a coupe in case I ever find the time to get into some DE/AutoX or track fun as I don't think I want to risk banging up the cab. Also feel more comfortable having steel around me. I got my coupe fix by obtaining my mechanics old 944 for a daily driver as I do like the old school styling.

There are times when I think a cab would be sweet, wind in the hair and all but the way I drive (very spirited) I just feel safer in the coupe.

last spring while playing fender tag <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> with my friend and his 964 I almost rolled with wife in the car <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> , in a cab she would have never have forgiven me <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/angry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> (she was rather shaken even with a hard top)

PS.. I too like your avitar <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Cab owners- How do you feel about your cars w/ the top up? Have you noticed that they still turn heads and draw comments of praise when the top is up?

Thanx for all the comments on the avatar. It'll be gone in a few weeks. It kinda described my mood at the time. Actually, most of my avatars won’t load. There just too big.

I think it's better looking top up then down, one of the best looking convertibles out there with the top up actually. Just my humble opinion of course.

Yup, still get comments whether top up or topless. (ok, well, you know what I mean <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> )

(And I too like your avatar...very funny. I'd love to 'liberate it' for other uses!)

Ditto. I like the way it looks better up since it doesn't tuck away well when down.

Let's face it, when it comes to a Porsche, you can't make a bad decision.

My coupe with the long antenna reminds me of a remote control toy car, and since it is essentially a toy, it works for me. If money was no object I would of course have both.

Shall I even ask the group would you rather have a Cayman or a Boxster? Decision (in my humble opinion) is quite clear, Cayman all the way!

Oh I whole heartedly agree. I’m sure cab owners smile just as hard as coupe owners. This topic was to feel out where everyone’s personal taste is. I love'em both now, in the beginning I didn’t like the cab.

The way I see it there are advantages to each model.

Coupes- stiffer ride (I love what this thing can do in the corners), greater storage, vent or removable roof, rear seats (basically storage).

Cabs- Top down. Lockable cubby storage. A true 2 seater, stunning lines (w/top down IMO)

So yes, one cant make a bad choice. I don’t feel that I did. I simply want both. Maybe down the road I’ll come across a sweet deal on a cab.

My 2 cents; I also think the best 968 purchase is either a Coupe or a Cabriolet. You cannot lose with either! They both have their unique traits and attributes. I am looking forward to seeing a bunch of different Coupes and Cabriolets on April 27 and 28th in Hershey!

IMO the coupe has nicer lines and is a smidge lighter. If I remove my roof panel I can get a partial open feeling, [I realize it's not the same].

For those that have cabs, do you use extra caution when using public parking? If I had one, I'd be concerned that someone may cut the top and break into the car.

I typically drive with the roof panel open, but make sure to close it if it's parked out of sight. Yes, I'm cautious because I was ripped off twice before I bought this car, [ah yes life in So. Cal.!].

a lot more thana smidge lighter - try 154lbs!

i like the roof line of the cab a lot better - i keep looking at the hatchback model in profile when the hatch is open, liking the more vertical roofline, and wishing they made a real coupe

no, i don't worry about parking - rule number one of convertable ownership is NEVER lock the doors with the top up - i used to have a sticker on the wing windows of the MGB that said "it's open - take what you want - please don't cut the top"

all this means is that you put things in the trunk - another reason i wish they made a coupe in addtition to the hatchback

I don't worry about it but I am rarely anywhere I would need ot worry about it. I also never lock the car so hopefully they will try the doors first and not rip the top. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> If they do anything it's all covered by insurance.
