i didn't see the post in 2011. what torx screws? there are no torx screws in the ECU area in any car i've seen yet.

Number 6 in the PDF insrtuctions call for the removal of the torx screws. The torx screws hold the circut board to the case. Hard to see in the pictures but they are there on the case when prying up the tabs.

hmmm - going to have to check that. you don't need to remove the board from the case at all to change the chip.

That PDF is much better (IMO). Better off leaving the board on the case, I agree.
