The good: the outside temp gauge measures the temp correctly/accuately and illuminates when the headlights/park lights are off.
The bad: the gauge goes blank (no longer illuminated) when I rotate the headlight switch to any position other than OFF. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
Any ideas?
Thanks

Nope, haven't tried or removed anything just yet. I'm hoping this is going to be one of those "D-oh" moments when someone chimes in with the oh-so-simple answer.
Still waiting though...
I know Flash has experienced this one... come on Flash...

This summer the light stopped working (temp worked) on mine and when I tested it I found no voltage to the bulb (failed PCB?), I took the light from the cig lighter and stuck it in the temp gauge; it has no light with out the parkings lights but until I get a replacment it works for me (more of a toy really).
Mine defaults to Celsiuses, when I push the buttom I get Fahrenheit.
After about 30 seconds it goes back to Celsiuses.
Both scales are accurate.
That's odd. Mine stays at what ever it was on before turning the key off. It only defaults to C if I pull the battery.

Mine displays the correct temp in the correct fashion (C or F) but the light went out very recently. Bummer.

Thanks for all of your inputs. Seems like if you have a temp gauge that still works, you're among the few.
Is the temp gauge good for anything other than reading the temp? In other words, is it a clock or timer or ???
Maybe the hole it's occupying right now could be better used for something else cool like......... I don't know what... maybe an eject button or something.
Any ideas?

The unit is very easy to remove by first removing the horizontal trim strip. Start with the passenger door open and remove the triangular plate on the side that you will see held on by a few screws. Then just follow your eyes. It all gets removed from outer side working to the centre. Be careful of the cover to the interior temp sensor hole (it twists 90 degrees on a bayonet) and there is also a screw in there. The knobs on the sliders for upper and low air distribution just pull off. Be careful not to break the tabs. These won't go back on if the tabs break. The rotary knobs don't need to come off so don't try. Once this is all off (5 minutes) the temp gauge just comes out. The connections and bulb are easy to access although the fingers take a bit of a beating doing it until you are familiar with the routine. OJ would be convicted with the blood I have left in there. I have done this a dozen times fixing dash stuff. The bulb works full power when the lights are out and half power otherwise. Probably if the bulb is on when the lights are out you simply have a dirty connection. Good luck.

Wow, great write up Kim, thanks! When you say "dirty connection", do you mean at the bulb itself or are you talking about the light switch rotary knob?
