Design 1 Racing shutting down permanently.
#1

Well, the time has come to say "goodbye". It's been a long run, and for the most part, a fun one. But, like many other things, it's time to come to a close.

I will not be doing any more runs of anything. I have what I have in stock, and that's it. If there is no "add to cart" on the item, it is out of stock, and will not be replenished. The last run was the last run.

I will take orders on splitters until 3pm Pacific time Friday Dec 13th 2013, make those, and ship them, but that's it. After that, there will be no more.

I have the mechanical makings of 3 Supercharger Kits, and can build those up, but then that is the end of those too.

There will be no Chassis Braces, or any other parts made.

I will be around to provide warranty support for the duration of any outstanding warrantable items, but once I have shipped everything, I will not be frequenting the website, nor will I be available for diagnostic advice not specifically related to a Design 1 Racing product.

I do not know yet if I am going to license out my designs, but there are no plans at this time. No matter what I do, going forward, I will not be personally involved.

Plain and simple, I'm just moving on from the 968. Once I have closed everything down, color me gone.

Startling announcement . I'm sure most are either 1) in shock and rendered speechless , or, 2) taking a nap post what must have been a heavy turkey meal accompanied by booze and have not yet read the post :-) , ergo lack of immediate replies. Although anyone who has read many previous posts from you and for months now, re the gradual scaling down of D1R should have foreseen this eventuality. Entirely understandable Bob, not even sure how you found the drive, patience and continued interest to keep it running as long as you have. There comes a point where too much of anything will take its toll on anybody so in guess this is just the end of an era and while it is a huge loss to the 968 community, the appreciation of what you have done for all of us will not fade in the least.

lol - yeah - i'm also guessing that a number of people said "yeah - he said that before" when i said i was scaling down and headed toward closure. well, news flash! i was serious.

it's just time. i always maintained that this was a hobby. my primary reason for any of it was to develop things i wanted for the car, because nobody else had anything. i was happy to share with others. also, i always maintained that it was a very real burden on the rest of my life. after almost 10 years, it's time to move on. things have changed. the ownership has changed. the things that brought me to the 968 are no longer the same. i've done everything that is feasible, and everything the car can take. i don't know if i'm keeping the car or not yet. i'm leaning toward not. i love the car, but i don't drive it, and it's still not a ferrari.

basically, i've just outgrown it. time for something better. not sure what that is yet, but i'm betting it's either a whole lot lighter, or has more cylinders. i'm going to take my time on that one. i'm not in any rush.

but, any further continuance of design 1 racing, in terms of 968 stuff, is only a distraction that i am no longer willing to deal with. it's been a long time coming, but should not really be any shock to anybody.

For the SC I imagine you will post ( here or on the D1R site ) the sources for replacement parts which we may need in the future ? Pulleys, Hoses, or any of those things that eventually will wear ..

Flash, Best of luck in any new venture you undertake. I'm sorry that the time has come for you to depart. I can only hope that you will check back at least once in a while to see how things are going. You have a wealth of information that will lost from the forum without your input and help for others. True, membership ages change and all the new people need help and guidance along the way so they can keep these wonderful cars in operation.

Cheers,

Larry

Thanks Flash for that your obsession has contributed. Those of us who suffer the same have much enjoyed all you have shared. Certainly understand your thoughts about time to move on. Perhaps it's time for my Stage 3 car to find a new home also.

You have been a great service to the 968 community. I hope that one day when I get a Ferrari you will have the 458forums.com started and I can join and order from D1R again - in my dreams!

Hopefully the crystal blocks come to fruition before I am forced to order my replacement splitter on Dec 13th?

Been one hell of a ride. I have never been passionate about anything (except the wife) until I joined this forum and installed your products. I trust access to the knowledge base will continue even without D1R.

You're getting a splitter also. I was torn between ordering one or two!

Is this your Happy Thanksgiving, Flash? Lol. I'm off line for a few days and come back to this shocker! Well, you will be sorely missed. I have enjoyed getting to know you, your wealth of knowledge, and your Simon Cowell like online banter. I am bummed I got involved a bit "late in the game". At least I made the 10th and last Paso Run! Now I am kicking myself for not placing a D1R order on the last run for a second car but relieved that I at least have one vehicle with all the fixin's!

just as a note: off topic posts (discussions of the 968Forums sale and ferraris) were removed. there are threads for that.

i have had to remove a lot of posts from this thread that are about the website

people - keep them separate. there is a thread for each topic. do not mix them up.

What can I say? Everytime I get behind the wheel I have that much more fun thanks to all the upgrades you made available to us. How does one even begin to express appreciation for the incredibly unselfish expense of time and effort you've put into this site, and the 968 in general? Whatever the future will hold, things will undoubtedly be different around here. You shall be missed. Enjoy the next chapter, my friend.

Flash,

Thank you for all the work you've put into both the forum and the products. Thank you for every time you helped me trouble shoot my 968 over the phone and every time you graciously helped me work on my car. My ownership could never have been the positive experience it continues to be if it had not been for you. It was just awesome to be around someone who is so excited and driven. Get another MGB and we can race!

Similar sentiments. I've been off line for a while now as I made my own recent transition - job not cars. I knew this day was coming soon, but its still a sad day for us 968ers.

Thanks Bob for the great designs, advice, installations, and friendship. My car is now what Porsche should have built. I don't even think you're German so I'm not sure how that all worked out <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> Anyway thanks and I hope the friendships outlast the cars.

Best regards,

Joe

Sad news, but life needs to be lived and sometimes hobbies can become all consuming.

However, as the Tip specific chip is definitely not going to happen now, could you please return the standard one I sent.

Thanks
