Please help childs booter seat for 968
#1

Hello all,

My 6 year old was siting in the back seat of my 968 with his safety belt on.

The seat and seat belt fit him perfectly. I know he is safer then when he sits

on a booster seat in my Camery.

But yet someone reported that my child is not safe and needs a booster seat to sit there and it is against the law with out a booster seat.

But if anything, it is less safe when he sits in a booster seat in the 968. He is to high up and too far forward.

So, here is my question, Does anyone make a booster sea designed for a 968.

Thanks in advance,

Anthony

I have one of the Porsche Boaster seats, and it fit well in the back of my 944 Turbo. Neat seat with the grey Porsche Script cloth. It's a two part seat, made in Germany, all rigid foam, with a lower contour to fit the seat without causing the issue described. Hard to come by however. This aren't the rebrand Britax seats which did fit well back there. Ask my how I know!

seat belt laws vary from state to state - you need to look up the ones for your state

porsche actually offered a seat at the time they sold this car too - it apparantly came in sections - the part numbers are:

backrest 000.802.031.00

cup (bottom) 000.802.021.00

foam part 000.802.041.00

add suffix 2CZ for black varicolored or 6WC for classic grey porsche lettered cloth

So, how do I order one.

Anthony

also do I need all 3 pieces, or just the bottom.

Is there any place that will have info or pics of this.

Contact Sunset Porsche in Oregon to see if the parts are even available. If so, you can then order them.

I would guess the safest bet is to get all three pieces, but I dunno.

Let us know what you find out... if they are available and reasonable (which I doubt!), I would be interested in a set - I have a 6 yr old and a 16 mo old and wouldn't mind being able to take one or the other (weight / age appropriate of course) in my 968 when necessary.

it requires all 3 pieces to complete a seat - no idea why it is listed in parts and not a complete unit (unless i am totally blind and just can't see it, which at this stage of the game..............)

you can google "seat belt laws" and come up with the laws for your state

As Flash said, you need to find out what your specific state law requires, but in Florida, it would not even be an issue for a 6-year old. Here is a copy of their law:

All children 5 years of age or younger must be properly restrained no matter where they are sitting in the vehicle. Children through age 3 must be secured in a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer's integrated child safety seat. For children aged 4 through 5 years, a separate carrier, an integrated child safety seat, or a safety belt may be used. (FL Statute 316.613).

yup - for california, it's an age AND weight thing, so clearly there is a wide variance state to state

The Commonwealth of PA (we laugh at States, especially those with professional sports teams that win- you're all conformists!!!) has a weight and age law IIRC. I know the weight is 80 lbs or something like that. I think it's one of those "either or" situations.

Let us know what you find out!

I'll take a picture of mine when I get home. It is useable as sseparate parts. It's a bottom, and back, and a section which encloses the seatbelt which goes across the waist. I doubt they are made or available anymore. Porsche moved to the rebranded products a number of years ago. I still have one 6 year old in the family else I'd sell you mine.

Right now as it stands, it's 6 years OR 60 lbs. They are looking to make it AND in the not to distant future.

They are no longer available.

Any one else have any thoughts.

Also, in my state they were legal to sit in as long as the belt fit them correctly and there feet hit the floor.

They changed it a year an a half ago. to 7 years old 70 pounds and a certain amount of inches tall.

Otherwise they need a booster seat, even if it puts them more at risk.

I only found this out yesterday, because someone who does not realize how safe they where in my seats.

Knew the law had changed, saw my kids get out of the car and called DCF and reported me and said I was not using a booster seat and put the children at risk, even though it would put them to far forwards and to high for the safety belt to make them safe.

Child seat technology is probably way more advanced today than it was in 1995. I think it would be better to measure the rear seat opening and find a new booster seat that fits.

Compaines like Recaro, Simpson, MaxiCosi, Britax make booster seats. Maybe they have something that will fit properly, yet still look sporty.

The lucky thing about booster seats is they usually use the seat belt and not the "hooks".

Just my five cents.

There is nothing that fits in that seat, except a 6 to maybe 10 year old child.

The seat is about 15 inches deep, by about 14 inches in front and 11 inches in the back.

The seat is like a a child's safety seat with a seat belt, but it is built into the car.

I agree with that, I have yet to see an adult fit. Perfect fit for kids however.

Man I wish I had a picture of this. I was in my senior year of high school and I had 4 people in my 951 after I finished my clutch. It was Me, my dad, my girlfriend, and my future girlfriend (best friend at the time). We all went on a 15 mile journey. Man was it tight!! I still fit about 3 people in there on a regular occasion!!

Rustech is correct, in California the law says that once a child is SIX YEARS OR SIXTY POUNDS, they no longer need to be restrained in an approved child safety seat. At that point they may sit in the back seat until they are age 13.

lol - what happens when they are 13? do they have to stay home? are teenagers jut not allowed in a 968? i like that idea by the way

ok - seriously - there is no mandate on children 12 and under being in the back seat (other than as is indicated by the use of a booster seat), but it does say "should", as it is safer
