What's it take to re-upholster a Sparco seat?
#1

I came across a set of used Sparco Evo seats that I'm contemplating getting to put in my 968. The big problem with them though is that the seats are navy blue and would clash with my black interior. Does anyone know what it would take to chagne the seats over to all black?
I see that you can get a new center section in a handful of colors from Sparco (http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_acc.asp?id=486) which is a start. Is it possible to buy the main sleeve from Sparco as well or is this going to be a job for a custom upholstery shop?
I sent Sparco a messeage through their website, but who knows if I'll actually get a response.

I used the leather dye from www.carcareonline.com to freshen up the light grey on my front seats and the handbrake. Used a camel hair brush since I did not have spray equipment and it looks fine. There used to be a spray can dye but I haven't been able to find it in aerosol lately. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Sparco Evo seats aren't leather, are they? I thought they only come in that grippy fabric stuff which is called "alcantara" nowadays. I think I've sat in a set of these in a racing shop, and found them to be very comfortable. Is yours a track car, street, or dual purpose? Sorry I can't help with your question, but I'm anxious to hear what you find, because a set of lightweight racing seats is on my wish list as well. But my interior is gray, and I've never seen a racing seat that comes in gray, so I'm interested to hear if you're able to change the color of the Sparco's, if you end up getting them. Good luck.

That's correcyt, the seats aren't covered in leather but just velour so dying wouldn't be an option.
I did some more searching this morning and came across a replacement Sparco seat cover for Evo in black, part #01062KIT858INR. It looks like there's covers for most of their competition seats in a few colors. I don't know why Sparco doesn't have this listed on their website as well but it looks like this is what I'm looking for. It looks like I can get a new cover and center section and end up with basically brand new seats.

I'm geting monoballs installed now and I have Flash's coupe chasis brace coming to me as well so I'm definitely sliding down the hill to making my car largely track focused. Still it's also my weekend fun car so it gets a decent bit of street use as well. For the around town driving I'd probably prefer having the racing seats, but I need to decide if these seats will be comfortable enough for the 1 or 2 longer weekend trips I might take.

I didn't see any replacement covers for the Sparco seats in gray but the cener pads are available in gray and I found a place that listed just straight yards of fabric from Sparco for sale and they do have gray available (http://www.atomizedperformance.rpmware.c...51461.aspx). It looks like it might very well be possible to get a seat cover in gray in some way here.

That's the great thing about these cars - their versatility. While the ideal thing would be to have a dedicated track car, and a separate one just for the street, that just isn't practical for most people. The things you're doing sound like exactly what I have in mind for my car. Thanks for the tips on the seat covers; hopefully gray is indeed doable.

I had the Sparco Evos in my 944 turbo and liked them for a dual use seat. However, I did find them to be rather flexible on racetrack. I would prefer something stiffer next time. I am planning on getting a set of Kirkeys for the 968.

Attaching the Sparcos to a seat back brace would help the stiffness, but I'm pretty sure this is a no-no for the seat construction and FIA certification. I understand they are certified without seatback braces.

It's conundrums like these that make a dual use car such a difficult thing to execute correctly.

My favorite seat right now would be the Sparco Milano 2, but am not sure of their strength in a rear impact. I saw a set of SRDs get snapped backwards at the seat back at the Glen a number of years ago. Not the same seat, but a similar design...YMMV

I had looked into this in the past and just did a Google search for Sparco seat covers and found several sources:

Good luck,
