Ok, so just for grins I stopped by the Porsche dealer to see if they had a key blank for the 968. I figured it might be common with other models. But.... no..... they can order it and I could return in 2-3 days: $9.00 for the key stub/blade, and then you also have to buy some kind head portion. The lighted on that we all have would be $29.99. So after I add tax, plus cutting, a new key will be around $50.00.
Walked next door, to the VW dealer, got a new blank key for my Vanagon for $2.50 plus tax. (Nice area, Porsche, Audi, and VW dealers all next to each other lined up in a row).
Guess I'll check Sunset; Performance Products has some key blanks that they indicate will work for 968 for $9.99 plus ship, tax.
(yes, my honey drove the car, and proceeded to loose my whole keychain, 2 cars, 1 house, and worst of all my treasured Leatherman Squirt, important for a wannabe MyGuyver like me.) "Can you guys come bring me the spare key, I had it, but then I put it down, and the awful people probably stole it, and the people in the store are in on the conspiracy, and I called the police on these people, and they won't do anything, and it isn't my fault, because ...... Done, went to the local key shop, you know the one that has been there for 53 years and the owner is 137 years old.
He had a simple flat blade key, without light or rubber head, which I prefer anyway since it takes up less room in my pocket. That is why I don't use the remotes even if the car came with one.
$3.00 for key and cutting.
