Dash Lights
#1

Hello I'm new to the Forum and it won't let me do a search . So I need to see if anyone else has had this problem. My dash lights do not work, every thing outside the cluster works Ac panel, lighter, etc. the dimmer is working on the stuff that is working so that is not it. I have not pulled the cluster yet. Just getting some feed back. Thanks Dewane

It's weak (and dirty) bulbs but more accurately it is the silver paint they used at the factory on the "light tubes" tends to get old and flake off. It is designed to reflect the light into a clear plastic tube and up onto the instrument cluster. No silver paint = no light reflection. Once you can search, there are a couple of good threads on the topic and I think I posted a picture of the repair process. Some folks have used aluminum foil, others have upgraded/modded to and LED version, but then the dimmer doesn't work with the LEDs unless you add some additional electronics. Pulling the cluster isn't difficult, but a little tedious your fist time.

By the way, welcome to the best place for 968 info!

Thanks for the suggestions but my lights are not on at all. All other lights work just not the cluster was hoping another 68'er had the problem in past. Will be pulling the cluster tonight to check the bulbs. I have done the reflectors on many a cluster. I have found for me metal duct tape like the HVAC shops use works best and it is sticky on one side shiny on other quick and easy.
Along with my new to me 968 I have a 86 944 na 16 turbo phone dials, sport seats for playing.
