D1R SC Spark Plug Survey

I guess there are about 20 D1R superchargers out there. I'd like to do a little survey of what you others that have installed the SC are using for spark plugs.



I may have had some detonation. I was using Bosch platinum plus 4 plugs. I have now changed to NGK Iridium BPR7EIX and so far everything is good.



So would those who are actually running the D1R SC now please post what plugs you're using.

just as a point of information, and for those who don't know, the 4 prong plug is a VERY bad idea in a forced induction motor. the prongs shroud the electrode and fail to cool off properly. this results in exactly the issue he was having. if you have one of my kits, please do not run these plugs.



i am running the ngk listed above, which is one step colder than stock. the number for stock temp is BPR6EIX.

HI Guys, very interesting because I am almost certain that I have the 4 prong plugs as Flash decribed, I will change my plugs and see if this helps my stumbling issue.

The S2 runs even colder using the Bosch WR5DC (remember the Bosch heat ranges run reverse of NGK - ie Bosch smaller number is colder, NGK larger number is colder IIRC). I have this on my supercharged S2 engine and have no problems with 7psi boost. The plugs are nice and brown in colour and are lasting well. Stock 968 is Bosch 7 heat range, which is same as NGK 6. Flash I don't think the NGK 6 is colder than stock - you want and NGK '7' or Bosch '5'.

To clarify, Flash's recommendation and the plug I am using now is the #7 heat range NGK Iridium plug. The full part number is BPR7EIX.

Yep, NGK iridium. Good stuff. What kind of life are you guys getting out of them? Was thinking about mine and taking a look.

I don't have an SC but have the NGK Iridium ( one step colder - 7 ) and got around 45,000 miles out of the last set. They still looked ok, and no problems performance-wise when replaced, but thought since everything was new in the engine head ( post the timing belt disaster ) I may as well spring for a new set of plugs, lol..
