Coolant leaking from the "disc valve"
#1

So, my baby has sprung a leak in the cooling system. After pressurizing the system, the culprit is a component in the system. The PET I have lists it as a "disk valve". Would sure love to know what the heak that is and advise on where to order a replacement. Is this the heater sensor that flash mentioned to me before?

Much thanks,
Rick

This is the heater control valve. Do a search for it on here and you will find a bunch of threads. If you want to get back up and running quickly there are some that you can buy at the local parts store and install with a little finagling.

Hi Rick,

My HCV blew out last March. Here is a recent thread (among others) from that timeframe: http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtopic=8651 where I made some comments. I used the "all metal" version which I got from NAPA, it is an Audi part. But please read up on the details, since there are some comments why some people think the improved version may have some disadvantages. Also here: http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtopic=5485, look down to post #13 for the part numbers at Napa and Autozone. It is a little tight in there, but quite straight forward to replace.

My PET diagram list the Disc Valve as part # 92857457303.
I see what appears to be the same part on page 83 of the Performance Products catalog as item #21 "Heater Valve" p/n 903917 for $20.95.

Hope this info helps.

Do change your HCV as I found out the hard way yesterday...

(Glad to remember that I had AAA-like service included for free with my car insurance, as I was pretty far away from home or my preferred mechanic)
