Radiator is Weeping a little
#21

Quote:What sucks is I already replaced the switch, removed the pans and installed a new alternator, put in a new grill, cleaned the fans, filled and burped the system, THEN found out there's  a weep in the left seam.  If it had just leaked when I wass in there...............................................

So I am using G48 I believe.  Whats the advantage of switching to the Orange GM stuff (Dex-Cool)?

Does not contain zinc .  As I understand it ( from other threads here ) zinc is not good for our radiators .  No idea why , but there seems to be a consensus.

Phosphates and Silicates are bad for aluminum engines, too.

I use Porsche coolant. Its a no brainer. Its expensive, but since I replaced my original radiator cap, Ive used about a cup (which was half distilled water.)

Sorry, I meant to say phosphate-free coolant/anti freeze, not zinc.  ( I was thinking about the zddp additive to engine oil which was largely discontinued in the 90s as zinc was found to be somewhat harmful to newer aluminum engines, and catalytic converters as well.. although there’s still a lot of debate on that topic, and some top oil brands still put zddp in their oils ).   But phosphate free coolant is the clear choice for optimum protection of radiators, and I believe the orange color was developed primarily to differentiate phosphate free coolants from the classic green ones.

Yes it was. Zinc is an important additive for engines with flat tappets like a lot of motorcycles and older cars and Aircooled VWs, but its bad for catalytic converters.

Silicate and Phosphate free are what you want gif our engines.
