Control arm, ball joints
#1

Hi,

Thinking it would be nice to redo the ball joints, got a hold of a rebuild kit. Removed control arm and it doesn't look like it is possible, looks to be pressed in, no circlip or any such thing.

Is this the case?

The car is a RoW '92 prod number ca 1800.

Thanks

The ball joints are preloaded and retained with a circular clip on bottom. It is coated with epoxy and really hard to see until you chip away the epoxy. Usually when I take apart the poly ball joint socket is cracked into pieces.

Apparently, 968's are not all the same. I have attached a picture of the joint. Clearly a pressed in plate, no epoxy, no circlip.

My mechanic, who has done this before on 944's, says this is completely different. The good thing is, the ball joint is still ok.

Probably not a bad idea to check your control arms before ordering a rebuild kit.

Is this a picture of the "non-rebuildable" control arm? I need to refresh my suspension on my 94. I'm trying to determine if I can rebuild my control arms myself or if I should get earlier arms. Is there truly such a thing as a "non-rebuildable" 968 control arm? Same question for the struts, do I need earlier struts to use the Koni inserts from Paragon?
