as the fender is part of the body structure in a unibody car like ours, and adds rigidity. Replacing it with something fiberglass or carbon would weaken the front end and make it feel less solid.

>>Carbon is six times stiffer than steel for the same weight, so in this case it could be used as a stiffener!

a carbon fender would only hold true if the attachment were different - you would have to reinforce the carbon so much at those points to hold the load, that it would end up weighing the same as the fender, which is already extremely light - besides, i won't be doing any body panels

as to the strut tower brace, the hardware and sheet metal are not up the the loads a stiffer brace would generate over time - i have already seen a dozen cars with ripped sheet metal and/or stripped studs on the OEM bearing, exacerbated by use of a stiffer brace - the upper bearing will be essential in creating a better mounting - putting an even stiffer brace on OEM mounts is a huge mistake for street cars - on a track car, you end up adding tubing to take frame loads, lessening the loads on the towers, which inherently reduces the risks - i carefully calculated the camber change at maximum deflection and determined that for a street car it was so minute that there was absolutely no need for a stiffer brace, and it would only hurt things

the bearing also takes vertical loads, not just rotational ones, so this construction will have to be considered as well

Flash said he's not going to be doing any body panels, so regardless of any potential advantages of this material or that style rocker panel, it's not going to happen. I can understand; I would imagine it's a ginormous expense to tool up to create body panels, and we're dealing with a very low volume car here.

I'm excited about the new parts! I'm interested in:

1. front splitter

2. aero undertray

3. stiffer strut tower brace

front splitter won't happen until winter - i don't want my own car down all season

aero undertray will not happen for any car but my own - the liability is too high - there are too many variables that could easily result in such a unit causing tragic results

stiffer strut tower brace design is already complete - i finished that and abandoned it deliberately when i went with the current design, due to the weak point then being the tower, which was already showing signs of failure - the upper bearings will be critical to implementation and these still need to be done - a stiffer brace by itself will not help - the deflection of the existing brace only results in .005" of lateral change, which is a nearly zero change in camber - it does the job as it is, and without damaging the towers - a stiffer brace alone will only rip out the tower tops until they are reinforced by the new upper bearing

lol - i just realized this weekend that i didn't put it on the site - i'll add that too - i've been trying to figure out a way to connect it to the boot cover so that it can be a simpler one pice design, but so far i haven't gotten there - it's more complicated than just sewing them together - holding the thing down so it doesn't blow upward is the issue

+1 for front splitter (I too would like the tray under the front of the car cleaned up - aluminium plate formed to suit?)

How about a larger opening mold for the front nose cone to replicate the 968 Turbo RS (whilst still keeping the tow hook attachment)?

I would like an alacantera wheel insert for my CS steering wheel as the leather is getting slippery. Just the material cut to size and shape so it can be stiched either as a replacement or over the existing steering wheel rim.

Is there any benefit from a transmission oil cooler set-up for track use?

Sorry, also forget - new/replacement coupe luggage cover blind assembly. The original one after 16 years is too thin and flimsy.

the last i heard, there is already an RS intake part, and it's down by you - fitzpatrick sells it

i don't like alcantera on steering wheels - it gets too beat up looking too quickly - if the leather is slipping, it's time to clean it - but, you can have just about any upholstery shop cover your wheel, and it's not bad - you can also usually pick up a good used one pretty cheap

while unnecessary for street use, the trans does benefit on the track from a cooler - RS Barn already worked that out though, so i don't think i need to go there - i would contact them on that

i'll take a look at the luggage cover - i can probably work that out easily enough

What I would love would be a sunvisor retrofit that allows the visor to swing 90 degrees from the front to the side windows, like every other car has.

+1 on the visor for a cab. Same issue for coupes?

yes, the sun visors are lame on these cars and my girlfriend always complains about the crappy glued on mirror on the passenger side <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

i just installed a new one in the blue car, even though i could still see through the one i had - the new white was quite a difference over the yellowed look though - simple job, very aesthetically pleasing to me, and a lot less expensive than a replacement would be

What's the difference between a "new" one and a "replacement"?
