Considering Big Reds
#1

I am looking to upgrade my front brakes and before I spend the time, money and effort in acquiring everything needed to add a set of 993tt Big Reds to the FRONT only, will the OEM rears work OK for street and occasional AX use or will I have to add the equivalent rear brakes as well? I've heard about changing the fr to rear brake bias valve - does that apply here? I continue to experience issues with my front brakes - new OEM rotors that seem to gum up with brake pad medium as often as I can change pads and lightly turn the rotors down and I've had enough after three tries. Stay away from Jurid pads. Lastly, and I think I know the answer, will the Big Reds necessitate a change from my stock 16" rims? Will 17's work or are 18's required? Thanks in advance.

Stew, the bias valve is pretty much a must with the big reds.
Your set up will be fine.
You will need to upgrade to 17" wheels to clear the new calipers.
I may have BR's available next week.

Pat - please let me know if you decide to move your BR's. Are you able to recommend where I may find an appropriate brake bias valve to fit my application? Guess I'll be searching for 17's now, eh? Thanks a ton.

I'll send you an email in the morning.
I may have a nice set of Polished 3 piece 18's with tires
for sale as well.

33/5 brake proportioning valve would be a good addition. the po did a good job of balancing the brakes on this car. For the street this is a good combo.

Stew- the 5/33 brake bias valve is available from Sunset, probably Paragon, probably Pete, etc. I think this is the PN: 928 355 305 02. If you search here, the PN will come up- just can't recall the thread.

I believe the part is less than $100 from Sunset (last time I checked). Supposedly it is a bit of a pain to replace the original, and you should also factor in new brake fluid and perhaps lines and stuff.

And yes, the 16's are a no-go like Pat said.

For what it's worth, I've been running Big Reds up front, stock in the rear, and the bias valve (I think it is from a 928??) on the track for the last three years on my 951. I push them prettry hard (red group) without issues.
