Big Red Brakes
#1

Does anyone know the composition or Porsche model source or PNs for Big Red brake kits? I'd like to be able to source my replacement brake component needs on my terms and not necessarily have to go back to the original provider.

My '93 968 coupe has very nice Big Red brakes installed by the previous owner. From the PN on the work order (1916945R) it appears they were provided by Schatz Motorsport as the Porsche Big Red Brake Kit (968 non-M030). Schatz replied to my query stating they do not provide details of their kits - clearly wanting to be sure they corral their customers back to them exclusively. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I believe, but can't confirm, that the Big Reds are from a 993 Twin Turbo.

Any and all information will be appreciated.

If you are not starting with an M030 car the brake kit includes the 993TT calipers, Alluminum mounting adapters, and the larger x-drilled rotors. Many add a 928 P/N brake Bias.

All of these parts can be purchased at Paragon Products individually.

If you're using 993TT rotors, remember that the hats need to be exchanged to get the correct offset position to match the caliper adapters. Didn't see that mentioned in the previous posts.

I got my rotor hats from www.lindseyracing.com, very nice people to work wth.

Just get the M030 968 Rotors and you are fine. No need to get 2 peice rotors unless you want to spend the extra $$$.

The calipers are 993 Twin Turbo, but the correct one piece front rotor(s) is from a 964 Turbo (965). These are direct bolt on and should be cheaper than customized 993TT rotors. The part numbers are:

965.351.045.00, left "cast drilled" rotor

965.351.046.00, right "cast drilled" rotor

Order front pads as if you have a 993TT. The caliper adaptors (not that those will ever need to be replaced) needed for non-M030 cars can be found in a lot of places including Paragon-Products.

Check out the Brakes section of Tom Pultz's http://www.944s2.com website for a detailed write-up for a big red brake upgrade. He also has an excel spreadsheet that lists all the parts, part numbers, and prices. The link for the spreadsheet is http://www.944s2.com/brakes/images/brakes.xls
