Big Blacks
#1

Anyone running big black brakes on their 968? I am considering this upgrade because my current brakes are wearing down and the calipers may not be rebuildable according to my shop. I'm considering the Lindsay Racing Big Black kit and wanted to know if anyone has experienced any negative effects of such an upgrade.

Also considering Lindsay Racing's Bilstein Firehawk front struts, anyone familiar with them?

Thanks

Phil, I have replaced my front brakes with the 1987 928 S4 brakes and changed the rear proportion valve as well. Works great. As I understand the "Big Blacks" are off the 928 GT and they should be even better. Changing the rear proportion valve makes the rear brakes do more of the braking and the car doesn't "nose dive" when you brake hard. It sort of "squats down" and stays more level. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Yes they are the 928 GT ones. Thanks for the input Bob.

I came across this recent thread and thought it was interesting. Apparently it's possible to adapt the 928 front calipers to the larger GTS rotors. It might be a option for those racing or DE'ing on a budget. The person that did it is a full blown racer, he actually races the 928 that Al Holbert set the production car speed record in 86.

Big-Blacks were fitted to the 928 GTS.

I believe the 928 GT had the S4 brakes, which I suppose could be called "biggish/medium-blacks" or something like that.

The standard front brakes can be reused at the back, while fitting the 928 gts big blacks at the front. Huge improvement for street use. The big reds with ventiled disks are a bit of an overkill for road use and are more for track use.

I run the Big Blacks on the front (993TT rotors or 928 GTS) with the standard rears. I think I got mine through Paragon. They also sell a replacement brake bias valve for this set-up. Excellent braking when on the track.
