Water pump leaking
#1

I have been working towards replacing my head gasket. While I was at it I replaced both the balance shaft seals and o-rings. Then I noticed that the two lower water pump fasteners were a corroded with rust and the face of the pump appeared tarnished. My judgement is leaking seal on the pump.

Anyone think differently? I guess this is my way of hoping that the pump is not leaking.

Has anyone tried to rebuild the pump themselves? It just a bearing and a seal.

There's more than one place where a 968 WP can leak...but if it's the main shaft, I'd quit driving until I could replace it. Broken Tbelt is bad. Was just thinking, if coolant were to leak on belts that wouldn't be good either.

Even the companies that re build water pumps don't have a perfect record. I personally wouldn't try it myself. A seized WP or impeller coming loose is not good.

BTW, WP bolts break off easy..."wake them up" first before torking on them and be careful then. Maybe heat too if they don't come easily?

And use a tork wrench when tightening the WP bolts. I used all new bolts.

I didn't order new bolts, just a pump and gasket. I'll add that to my list. Right now I am in the middle of rebuilding the head. Will I'm in there I replaced the balance shaft seals and cleaned the area up. Now I'm waiting on a water pump.
