Does anybody have a temperature sensor on the exhaust?

I tried to post this in the "Nuts and Bolts" section, but I do not have permission. This is the second best place

While I was looking for the part number of the Lamda/oxygen sensor I came accorss another sensor in PET (Part Number 951 606 019 00). My car does not have this sensor, but does have a hole in the exhaust where it can go. Currently it has a plug in it.

I was just wondering if anybody on this forum actually has this sensor in their exhaust?

Flash, do you know something more about this sensor? My guess is this is for countries that had very strict emissions regulation? Maybe Japan?

california is as strict as it got - not sure what that sensor is, but if there is a port there, then there is a way for me to monitor something, so another gauge may be in my future

it seems that there is a sensor for something, that is replaced by a cap - i'll look into it though

sort of - the issue with our exhaust is not back pressure though - it is gas velocity - "back pressure" is a term often misused to describe restriction - that has been talked about in other threads though

not sure what the sensor location is for other than perhaps to test the cat

The port is probably used for an EGT sensor. EGT is another way to check air/fuel mix.

At work we have EGT sensors on all exhaust ports of all our test engines so we can see what each cylinder is doing.

It's a temperature sensor for exhaust alright.



It's on cars from Japan as you suspected. I've got it on mine, and an "EX" lamp in the dashboard for it as well.

Got a Japanse car too, so I got the sensor + EX light as well. And on extended wide open throttle on the autobahn (think getting from 160 KM/h to 220 KM/h in 6th), it lights. Should that worry me?



Only thing I could find is that it's telling me the cat is hot. But what is hot? And is it TOO hot? For what? Questions, questions...

the cat will get pretty darned hot. remember that the exhaust is as much as 1300 degrees F. it is common to see the cat in the nearly 500 degree area.
