Hall sensor harness connector
#1

The Hall sensor on my car is bad (consistent 1-1-3-4 on the blink test, engine a little sluggish above 3,000 RPM) and I have a replacement coming, but the connector is a non-standard one that the previous owner installed.

Where can I get the correct harness-side connector?

call sunset. that would be my only suggestion. otherwise, you'll likely need to get a used one and splice it in.

i do NOT recommend cutting off the connector on the sender. i tried that. the wires are VERY difficult to work with.

I soldered them to the harness wires this weekend, and I completely agree. I was able to use a soldering jig to hold them, but it was certainly picky work.

Reference sensor = Hall sensor? If so, I'll just get one from Ian!

It's the same 3 pin connector, they used it for a few different sensors. The other side of the connector is here, you can compare it with the sensor side. http://www.944online.com/cgi-bin/ASI_Sto...1298060689

Can someone decode the pin-out for the harness side of the Hall sensor connector for me? I'm having trouble even finding it in the diagram.

Basically, I need to know which colour on the harness goes to which colour on the sensor, to be sure I don't get it wrong.

@#$! razzle frazzle @!#$ it.

I clicked on that link and one or two more and Wham-O, there's the little round pins I was probably looking for when I was doing the starter-to-alternator cable replacement with the Robby cables...

The exciter and ignition-to-solenoid cables are both connected in a little two-pin connector next to the brake booster, and the pins look exactly like the "Round Pins - Male" on EagleDay.com. Something like these if anybody is still interested in that project - http://www.eagleday.com/333.html

Here's the wiring diagram. I have a new Hall sensor, and a replacement harness side connector -- what I'm looking for now is an indication of which wires on the harness side correspond to pins 3, 2 and 1.

Failing that, some indication of how they would read with a multimeter, and whether I would need the battery connected or ignition on to determine which wire is which.

Looks to me like 1 is REd (+5V), 2 is GreeN, and 3 is, well, not REd or GreeN...?

I thought so too, but I believe that the available wires are brown, black and white.

Brown would be ground in our vehicles but given you have black and white as well I would go with black gnd, white 12V and brown as the shielded Hall output. Whichever colour is the centre pin is most likely signal. The other clue is the mating connectors pin 1 or 3 should lead to an outside shield/gnd type cable which leaves the other pin as 12V.
