redline engine oil
#1

I was poking around paragon's website and noticed they sell Redline brand engine oil. 10w30, 10w40, and 15w50 weights.

I was thinking of switching from good ol mobil1. I've got redline tranny oil. . . and looks like my local Kragen isn't stocking 968 oil filters any more so I will have to order those as well.

As long as I'm ordering filters I thought, why not try the really good s***e. Question is. . . is it really good?

on a related note, did you guys read the excellence article about motor oil? Based on that article I'm using a bit thinner oil these days (was using 15w50, now 10w30 with 1 qt of 15w50 mixed in). it talked about how things like variocam use engine oil also, therefore too thick oil will cause those other bits to not function optimally.

Anyhow. . . Redline engine oil. Opinions?

Haven't used it - debating myself about changing to it. Since Mobil 1 is no longer 100% pure synthetic. My reservation is that Mobil 1 has been in the car for at least 2 years - and all the leaks have been fixed. I'm leary that changing to it will cause leaks to pop up.

As far as redline as a oil, i don't doubt it a bit. If you want to read and determine facts on your own, go to the forums at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com and read for yourself!

Redline is an excellent oil, though everyone has their own favorites. I have been using only Redline since I bought the car in 1998 w/26k miles on it. Used as daily driver and now has 110k miles. Cam cover removed every 10K for inspection, cam/chain/tensioner all in great shape with minimal wear and great color, no burning. I change oil every 5k miles. Also Redline makes 5w40 which is factory fill for our cars.

Redline is a good oil. A little pricey I think though. But then again, I use Lubro Moly Synth which is pretty expensive as well. AMSoil is not bad as well. I have gone away from Mobil 1 several years ago. Have not looked back either.

I had been thinking about doing the same thing, given the recent revelations about Mobil 1. My car's not a daily driver, though I do take it to the track several times a year, so I only change the oil once a year, which amounts to 3-4K miles. oppositelock (great userid, by the way <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ), what wieght have you been using? I line in Austin, TX, where it's pretty warm most of the year, and have been using 15W50 Mobil 1. Thanks.
