#1

that when we have no key in the car and turn our signal either up or down it's like having the European parking light. either direction only one side comes on... damn, took me this long to figure it out!

Michael, we should have crossed paths sometime - I lived in Germany for over 10 years. Frankfurt am Main, Mainz, Bamberg, Spangdahlem. I went over in 1949 as an Army Brat, went back in 1960 as a PFC Helicopter Mechanic, Went back in 1963 as a field Artillery Officer and finally went back in 1975 as an Air Defense Artillery Officer. spent many happy miles driving on both Autobahns and twisty mountain roads. Wonderful place and people! Bob Blackwell.

Well, instead of burning four parking lights, you just burn the 2 that matter to passing traffic.

I can't remember the last time I used parking lights for parking, but if you ever have to leave your car in an exposed position, it's a good idea to let people know it's there, and at half the battery consumption, it just might start when you get back. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

In Germany they usually park with part of the car on the side of the street. So when the visibility is low, you put the lights on that side.

Bob - i was at Ramstein AB from jan 86 to oct 94. Never owned a Porsche while I was over there though!

My wifes Benz has this feature, yep, it's for when you park on a street, or that side of the car is in the line of traffic at night, Drivers usually put that side on so other drivers can see the front or back of your Auto...

I have never liked this feature. It's too easy to bump the turn signal lever up or down while getting out of the car and draining the battery needlessday during the day.

Yes, it's also easy to pull up into a park with the indicators on, switch off, lockup and leave with them on. My VW has a beeper for that, it makes a racket if I open the door with the indicators on and the key off. I hear it a lot...
