Brake light on
#1

    [attachment=8603:Baja_ALM...Pics_002.jp
g]     The guy who owned this car before me had 993 calipers and rotors installed. They work great. I noticed that after I replaced the speedo gear that a light was missing for the "Check Brakes" light on the dash. When I replaced it, sure enough it was on........but not the dreaded (!) so I took it back out. weird!! .....Based on the pics below, is there something I can do to these wire bundles and get the light out? I've read you can twist the wires together.........but before I start snipping, thought I 'd better ask. I would really like to have it functional from a Master Cylinder perspective

That's right. If you short out all four connectors that go to the brake pad wear harnesses, then the light will go out.

The 993 pads should also have the provision for the brake pad sensors, why not just hook them back up?

I gotta agree with bandit...while I understand that we're all way smart enough to know when we need new brake pads and don't need another idiot light to tell us what we already know, but removing the light bulb or taping over it is wrong and doesn't "fix" whatever is truly broken. If the calipers and pads have the little slots, I'd use them. I think most people end up tying them back and/or leaving them disconnected 'cause they don't want to pay to replace them when they do a brake job.

I disabled my "brake light wear indicator" light in 2003 right after I replaced the brake pads the first time after I bought "ol blue". No problems and no annoying light! I check my brakes frequently and do not need a reminder to replace the pads when they are wearing down. We don't need no stinking warning lights! Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Is it safe to say the sensor should read continuity with DVM?

I cleaned by calpers and took the pads out to clean the plate and now the brake pad light is on, I would like to test the sensors with the meter to see what sensor is faulty.

Thanks

Funny enough, you can't tell by BWD's website, although they make sensors for Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Cooper, etc. Their paragraph on testing says the rotor both "touches the contact" and "breaks the circuit". <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Quote:How to determine if these sensors are malfunctioning.

Visually inspect the contact and brake pad for excessive wear – if they are worn, then both need to be changed. When the brake pad becomes too worn and low, the rotor cuts through the sensor, touches the contact and breaks the circuit triggering a warning light on the dash. Some sensors emit an audible sound in the cabin to warn the driver that the brake pad has reached the end of its service life.
