Body lowering question
#1

I see that most lowering causes about a 1 to 1.5" drop but I was wondering if anyone ever measured their car before lowering it. I checked the specs in the manuals and then checked my car at it measures 1" lower then the manuals state and as far as I know my baby is bone stock.

Any ideas?

this may all seem obvious, and you may have thought of all of this but:

is your car M030? that would account for 20mm of it

is it low at both ends?

do you have lower profile tires?

where are you measuring? the manual does it in some rather odd places

i have only measured one car for stock height check (and it was over 2 years ago) but it was within a couple of mm on both ends

Hey Flash,

No on the mo30 (according to the option tag, also no adjustable struts/shocks)

I checked it per the wrkshp manual points (hood/bumper line, using a level to make sure it was accurate) and (top of rear license body line).

Tires/rims are stock size (205/55 zr 16 ft - 255/50 zr 16 rear)

It is exactly 1" lower ft and rear (not that I'm complaining, just wondering )

hmmm - i'll likely not have a chance to measure another stock car after i finish the move

i'm wondering if somebody stuck different springs in there

how about taking a measurement from the ground to the top of each wheel arch? you should have about 26.5"

as i said, i only did the one measurement the other way, and doing the level thing was a bit tricky - that car did have a pretty good gap at the wheel arches though - since then i've just been doing the whell arch method

If 26.5" is at all corners I,m even more confused.

I get 25.75" frt and 24.5" rear

And I agree; using the level was a pita. luckly I have 3 arms and a big nose

lol - remembering now the contortions i was going through at the time myself

sounds like you have non-stock springs up front, and a sagging rear end - 24.5 is REALLY low - i'm not even that low

could be collapsed struts and shocks - how many miles on them, and more importantly, how old?

Well that that don't sound good . My car has the original everything except belts and w/p (and tune up parts), it had 61k when I got this spring from the original owner (has 69k now- man I love to drive it ).Guess its time to start saving for suspension parts, just have to decied if I will go mo30 (would like it stiffer) or stock (I like that idea too).

Also you can upgrade suspension components without sacrificing too much in ride quality. In fact I've just changed all my Mo30/968cs stuff out for something of this century and it has improved my ride quality a little but the handling and grip A LOT! So it's worth considering as a real alternative and you will wonder how you drove on stock system for so long!

Thanks for the feed back.

Flash, I'll look into the idea that my eccentrics may have moved, and as always it's a joy talking to you in person (so to speak)

Ok, tell me more. I have a 968CS with stock M030 suspension (in storage while the new garage is completed) and I think it's time to do something. At the very least, I think the Konis are due for a big service, it's a '94 car with about 80,000kms on the clock. The CS suspension is ok, but I'm interested in options for a multipurpose road/track vehicle.

Thanks for any input,

Michael

the options are many - the results are varied and very subjective - what i like is not what the next guy might like - it really depends a lot on your budget and what you are willing to tolerate in ride quality

do a search here - you will find a lot of different setups

Thanks Flash, my interest is in renovating the suspension, improving the handling without sacrificing any more ride quality, or perhaps even improving it. 333pg333 seems to have found an answer he likes, I'd like to hear more about it which is why I posted. A search tells me he has a KW V3 setup, but I couldn't find any specifics.

I beleive he was going for the KW racing setup not the V3. The V3 is a very nice setup you can find tons of info re:968 V3 setup on the UK forums. I am leaning towards these (have been since before I bought the car) and the responses from the UK guys have pretty much sold me the rest of the way.
