A-arm Replace or Rebuild
#1

I have begun the rebuild of my 2nd 968. I am currently working on the front end. I have found that the A-arms on both cars are worn out. I am trying to decide if I should have them rebuilt, rebuild myself or buy either new Charlie arms or the set offered by Racers Edge.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks in advance

It depends what you want from your car? If you are just going to street it then just go stock. If you are going to track it then I would go for the RacersEdge ones. They have a few better design points and if you lower your car which you probably will then the ball joints are under too much strain and can fail causing accidents often at high speed. Depending on how keen you are may help you decide whether to go for solid bushings as well. There seems to be divided opinions as how much these affect ride quality on the street but they are meant to be much better on the track?

Blaszak Precision Motors up in the cold north rebuilds them as well as fabricates race versions. I think the rebuild is about $175.00 each

Just an FYI -- Blaszak, Fabcar, Kokeln, Racer's Edge, SFR and Wrightwood all make aftermarket A-Arms for the 968.

Now which one of these is the "new" one and which is the "old"? I can't seem to remember and where does this f@#$%&ing part go?

Ok,

just kidding the project is actually going well and ahead of my schedule to have it done by spring

I have found a source for the Charlie arms but they are backordered until January

Miles,

They are backordered until January?

Wow, I didn't think you'd have to put an order in so far in advance. Do they make them up to order, or, are they so backlogged?

Do they make them so that you can keep your air deflectors for the brakes?

I think they wait until they have enough orders and then the produce them in batches? I think I will be able to drill and tap a couple of holes so that I can keep the deflectors if they don't already have a spot for them.

This picture is of the new Griffith power steering rack that I had installed on my old car about 1-2 months before the crash

The Charlie Arms have been back ordered for a year. I sell the Racers Edge @$1399

The Charlies look prettier and REdge have some design upgrades.

Contact me for info.

FWIW when I replaced mine, after considering the various rebuild (difficult for a 968 arm), charlie-arm (expensive - not really needed), or new Porsche parts I opted for the factory models. Relatively inexpensive, as I recall.

That's $200 less than Karl sells them for? Is that his new ones with the monoball bearings inc?

I'm looking at going with the Racers Edge arms myself as I think they are better design. I also know that Blazack and Charlie arms are not available at the moment which makes the decision easier.
