Best wine you've had ?

Wine is most definitely also in play here, and since the topic of the century is the corona virus , here’s my take on a connection ; alcohol wipes have long been known to ward off bacteria and viruses , so simple logic tells me that drinking copious amounts of alcohol will protect your vital organs and blood steam from infections , including the Covid 19 ( corona ) . Just my theory but can’t hurt to start this regime ASAP ! Let’s see how Covid 19 does when it meets Macallan 25 !!!

Is your Dr. providing you with a prescription so you can take this medication daily?

I hope so, after the last few days stock market correction ( aka crash ) I can’t afford Mcallan 25... I can only get it with an Rx so insurance pays for it .

Guys you should find this report interesting. The Arabs were into wine before the rest of us and helped the Romans develop their vines in Europe, also Shiraz is a town in Iran ......

Last night my wife was making up Christmas wreaths for oldie neighbours; the village puts small pine trees on every other down pipe along the streets and the locals decorate them. We decided to have a cocktail....

Don't you love the polar bear and penguin ice cubes!!

Blue cocktail ?   Blue curaçao is the only one I know in that color .. what else is blue ?    The ice figurines are great, do you have the forms for real ice , or, are those the metal prefab kind you keep in the freezer and just place in the glass when you serve the drink ?

Yep Curaçao it is, with rum and vermouth. The penguins are ice from a silicone mold ... someone went to the effort of working out the correct weight/volume ratio so the penguins sit up nicely whilst the rest of the iceberg is submerged.

UAE dirhams are approx.  3.6 to 1 US dollar .   So this restaurant bill for 4 people is about $ 108,000 dollars .   ( of course three bottles of Chateau Petrus and 5 glasses with a double shot of Luis XIII cognac adds up to most of the bill.. but WTH ?! ).  A lot of people have more money than common sense .  Probably a business expense account also ..?

Roboman you are correct although I'm not sure about Persia. That said, Vitis vinifera, the grape species from which wine is made,  has its origins in Anatolia aka Asia Minor. It was subsequently carried into Greece and ultimately into Italy by Greek and Phoenician traders.

Hey Chris, it's happening again ...... this Winter is even shorter than a few years back, we already have a water shortage, and the flora/fauna is already acting as though Spring has sprung.  Here's hoping there isn't a cold snap in March/April!!

We are having another wetter than average winter. There was an interesting article in the San Francisco Chronicle a couple of weeks ago that discussed the potential for the very wet winters in California to come more common. The reason being that the upper atmosphere is warming, resulting in a shift in the jet stream causing our winter storms, born in the Gulf of Alaska, to pick up tropical moisture, which results in wetter winter storms.

As a result of last years wet winter, Unti Vineyards, where I work produced 20% greater crop yield than we were anticipating. The new wine I have tasted from the 2023 vintage strongly suggest the 2023 vintage will a great one for Unti.

Keep your eyes open for 2022 vintage wines from Napa and Sonoma. 2024 was the final drought year resulting low crop yields and concentrated fruit. Growing conditions were ideal. Every 2022 wine have tasted thus far has Benn excellent.  The wet winters in 2023 and 2024 coupled with moderate and steady temperatures will produce some very good wine if the 2023 whites are any indication.
