Bay Area Meet (July)
#21

lol - only if i can send you mine - one of the reasons i closed my shop was because i got tired of footing the bill for everybody else to play and i was too busy to play myself

but, i am giving thought to what i (we) can do to encourage 968 gatherings - they are a boat load of fun, and i think a lot of people are missing out just because they don't know any better, or don't have anybody in their area to put them together

Ok, I'm going to throw caution to the wind here and bring the Audi.

Whether or not my friends comming I'm in with my $20.

BTW I'd like half pep half cheese.

Arash I deem you the leader of this event because you know where we are going. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I've however never been to TI and I need directions. (I know where it is but never drivin on the island)

Just pick out a nice spot for a photo op.

If you need me to bring anything just call/text me, you have my number.

I can probably make this. Do we have a time and place nailed down yet?

Hey Jared, haha, I was just about to email you and invite you.

Time, oh, I don't know, shall we say 6pm? I know 2 good spots on the island. The first is right by the water and has a view of the Oakland side of the bridge, as well as the new bridge. You can also see some of downtown SF. The second is close to the water but not right at the shore, and it has a dead-on view of downtown SF. Both spots are killer! I'm leaning towards the first spot just because it's by the water and that's really nice. You can see sailors ducks and stuff.

Rich, no Audis. This is a 968 meet. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> j/k

Bob, sorry you had to spot us $100. I remember there was some anarchy when it came to paying the bill. Your generosity saved us the hassle of an unpleasant "bean counting" exercise and I'm sure that helped keep the day as nice as it was, so thanks for that.

Here's the first spot:

Yea... I never got used to SoCal either, so I ended moving back up north. They both have it's plus's and minus's....

I'll do my best to show up, but I think we should definitely call it spot #1 (since we have photo-recon) on Saturday at 6pm. If Arash pickup a pizza or two, everyone pitches in (except the guy who brought the pizza). Would that work?

It's ok, there is no way the car would make it there now.

So how about 1 cheese, 1 pepperoni, 1 pesto/feta, 1 chicken/garlic. If I hear no objections this is what I'll order!

I have a 12-pack of coke which I'll bring and some bottled water. Drinks on the house! Maybe I'll get a 6-pack of root beer too.

If you have a lawn chair it might be a good idea to bring it. I have 4 but I bet I will only be able to find 1.

Meeting spot is " 37.81709,-122.368829 " if you use google maps that will translate to a parking lot on the southern edge of the island. There are often tourists and other car enthusiasts loitering in these areas so I might pick another nearby spot for the meet. Just look around, I'll be there somewhere.

Oh yeah, I won't be able to bring my 968 - the turbo conversion has begun. I have the 944 at my disposal but I'll see if I can "borrow" my mom's 968.

So I just got home from a bit of a drive. I somehow got my dates mixed up and thought the meet up was today. I got as far as the bay bridge before Arash sent me a message wondering where I was going. Kinda pissed I didn't double check the time/date before I left. Oh well.

Not sure if I can make it tomorrow. I have some work up in the North bay. We will see what happens.

Hey did you at least get to turn around on the island and avoid the bridge toll?

It's cool - one time I was chosen to be the scout for a funrun route we'd picked out. I though it would be fun until I was out driving it, and it turned out being a long route that took 6 hours to drive. And then do it all over again with friends the next day!

Heh, I was checking to see if I'd forgotten this was happening today. I think tomorrow night should be fine. 'Za will be acceptble.

Tomorrow's going to be a busy day. Golden Gate Region (PCA) will be having an autocross in Alameda in the morning, and some guys from 914World are catching a tour of Canepa Design and his race museum in Scott's Valley. I was going to say I'm likely to sleep in, but I just found out about Canepa and that's where I'm heading!

Bob/Flash -- I agree 100% with the advice you offered. This particular local group seems pretty easy to wrangle, but when you target a larger or less coherent group it's better to lock down the details ahead of time.

I also agree about the fun when this kind of crowd gets together. I had a blast at the 914World.com West Coast Ramble '07, and was bummed to miss it this year.

This will be fun.

But expensive.

What's the toll on the bay bridge. $4?

Oh, and whats with the "gate access required"?

I hate getting up early on a Saturday, but I hate it even more when I get up early and realize that it wasn't early enough. No Canepa Design for me today, I took too damn long to get out the door. (And 914World has been down since last night, so I couldn't confirm where the meet-up was.)

I'll try to find a suitable outlet for any residual grumpiness before the meet-up on Treasure Island. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

It's foggy where I live in SF, I hope it's sunny on the island. Fog makes me so depressed.

I have a single human female requesting my presence this evening, and I'm afraid that trumps the meet-up. Arash, if you get stuck on the pizza bill due to these last minute changes let me know and I'll pitch in.

Even with the lack of participants it was still fun.

We got to make fun of my Audi and the seperating hatch on Arash's mom's car. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

It was a beautiful evening, can't wait for the next one.

I'm happy just to see one.

We were still able to talk cars for a while before it got too cold. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
