As far as I know, the OEM battery is a group 91, which has been hard for me to find at a reasonable price, so I have substituted a group 48 which is dimensionally very close. FYI, Sam's Club just switched to Interstate batteries and now carries a group 91 for $87.32. The warranty doesn't really matter much in Arizona heat as they usually only last about 2 years, which is usually a free replacement.

Unfortunately, the car wasn't intentionally being stored for the winter/spring so no precautionary measures were taken. I have toyed with the idea of putting a single throw switch in series with the negative terminal. I could hide it in the car and it would be easier to get to when I'm neglecting my little toy.

@Flash, do you have a pic, suggestions, or a "how-to" on moving the battery to the back? What is the process/parts needed? I want to do this as well, and use the space created to install a washer fluid reservoir as mine was... removed... during the scissor doors being fitted. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/glare.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Does anybody have a recommendation for a good battery which can be bought in Europe?



Is there anything I have to pay attention to when replacing the battery in a 968, or is it the same procedure as for every other car?

Alright, I might have found a suitable battery, now I'll have to see whether it's any good. My only concern now is that the car has been standing for 6 months. I checked oil level and tyre pressure, both are ok. The belt drive has been replaced last year and should be ok, too. Have I forgotten something I need to check or do before resuscitating my 968?

WARNING!

I recently bought an INTERSTATE MTP-48/H6 battery which was supposed to be a direct replacement for the MTP-91 that I had, but it does NOT FIT. I even asked the salesperson if it was the SAME size when I was buying it!

The MTP-48 is 7-3/8" in height and the MTP-91 is 6-7/8" in height. That 1/2" extra height is a PROBLEM.

Before slamming the hood after replacing the battery, I recall that I had read somewhere (probably in this Forum) that some batteries are too tall for the battery location in our cars. I tried lowering the hood VERY carefully and was not comfortable with pushing it closed. I spread some white grease on the foremost corner of the new battery and when the hood was lowered I coud see that some of the grease was sticking to the underside of the hood.



       



I tried in vain to shove the battery towards the firewall, in the hope to make it fit. To no avail!

I will be returning the battery tommorow. Frustrating because my time was wasted even though I took the care to ask if the battery was the SAME size!

So... I went back to the Interstate Distributor (I had bought from the local distributor, not a retailer). They quickly took the MTP-48/H6 back and went out to the warehouse and came in with a MTP-91!

Huh!!!

I had been told that it had been discontinued and had been replaced by the one they sold me... Well, it seems that the taller size has been a problem in several car models, so they have ressusitated the "old" size.

It was $51 cheaper than the one they sold me. It fits and works great, so I am happy.

It is rated for 6 years, but somehow I don't think i will get 11 years out of this one...

Replacing the battery in my 92 cab. The old one is a sealed Interstate. I've looked at 2 different replacements and both are vented and come with a small elbow to connect a piece of clear tubing to and a small plug for the other open port. My question is does it matter which side of the battery is vented (pos or neg) and which is plugged. Also, I assume the tubing just sits at the bottom of the tray as there doesn't appear to be a place or a "port" to insert it into. Any advice/input would be appreciated
