CR-1 Radio gone blank
#1

After sorting out the battery drain issue, my CR-1 head unit is now malfunctioning. The power comes on, it lights up, but no words display on the screen. Do these units have a secondary battery that might have been drained after my main battery issues? It isn't a case of punching in the code as CODE doesn't even show on the screen.

Well, I love the car and drive it every chance I get since it's delivery a month ago. I just seem to be moving from one little "issue" to the next. Oh well, at least these aren't major mechanical issues!

Stereo Weirdness

Have you seen any of the other symptoms mine is doing?

Yeah, I saw your post as well. Mine hasn't gone bi-polar like yours, though!

I did a google search and found my problem posted way back in 2000 on the Pelican Parts forum. Unfortunately, there was no answer!

The one thing I would add to the thread on my post was a private message I received on the issue that may be of help to you:

--------

"My drainage holes in front of the firewall and above the fenders got clogged (very easy and very common). When that happens and when it rains hard, water will fill up and flow into the vent/fan blower. Then water will soak carpet and since the power amp is under the front passenger seat, it can short the amp causing that issue. My amp was shorted out when I bought the car and I'm sure it was because of water.

Open the hood and put hose on windsheild and see if fenderwells fill up. If drains are clogged, a simple hanger will unclogged them and do that regularly. Good luck and let me know if that was it."

-----------

Is your passenger carpet soggy? I tried the above but my drainage was working fine...and yet with the rain we've been having here in Seattle I had noticed that my passenger floor - side toward the door - was water logged (under the mat). Have not figured out the source of the water getting in - or if it was shorting anything.

Problem solved and I feel a bit stupid. It was the anti-theft function. Somehow it had been kicked into a mode where even the word CODE didn't show. You then have to press and hold the AM/FM button, CODE re-appears, then enter the code for the unit.

Any of the newer Blaupunkt head units will fit in and connect with the factory wiring harness. I just put my Blau Seattle in and love it. So much for the wierdness!

Both the Porsche 210 and 220 work well as a replacement. I took out my CR-1 and replaced it with the 210. I really like it but the 220 is more versatile. Not that hard to hook up but you have to be careful. I had a special wiring harness made by a company in NC. Fit right in but one of the wires was reversed.

I had to take out the CR-1 because the PO didn't give me the right CODE. And I can't find anyone who can identify it. Worked great until I unhooked the battery and it asked for the code I didnt' get with the car.
