Rear mount turbos are a reall pain to mount and install. Other than having to run the charge pipe to the back of the car, you also loose pressure from the exaust by the time it reaches the turbo, resulting in less efficency. Plus, there isn't a ton of room in the rear of the cars. It's not that pratical, but if it were going to be a racecar, then pratical doesn't really matter. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

this keeps popping up from time to time - i haven't driven one yet, but i have a hard time imagining they figured a way around the lag - it's bad enough on a front mounted unit, i can't see it getting any better on a rear mounted one
and i have no idea where the heck they would run the plumbing in our car
great idea for a tow vehicle though

I recorded the "Two Guys Garage" episode where they put a rear turbo system on a 'Vette. It seemed to be easy enough and they did a few burn-outs etc. to showcase the lack of turbo lag. I think they used two small units (one each side).

i don't think that would be much of a test - the vette has enough power to do burnouts without the benefit of the turbo - it will spin the tires long enough to build boost, and then just keep spinning them because of the boost - great for showing off, but not so sure it won't be a handful to drive
i also notice that they always seem to work with big V8s with these things
as i said, i haven't driven a car with that setup, but i'm very skeptical of a low torque engine like ours having the ability to generate boost without lag
either way, i think slow boost is better than no boost, right?
the bigger issue though is where the heck to run all that tubing?

there are plenty of ways around lag on a front mounted unit... the rear mount systems certainly do suffer there though.

I don't think it's something that really is addressed. Every complaint I've heard about the rear turbo systems is the lag issue. There's a reason they use really odd sized turbos on big, high flowing v8's. I just can't see it being practical on a 4 cyl motor.
