I'm thinking about installing an amplifier in my coupe (probably in one of the rear cargo area cubby spaces). I'm wondering what is the best route to get the power supply lead to the battery?

Tap off of the factory wiring behind the radio. There are two 12V leads - one switched with the ignition and one hot all the time - you'll want the switched lead. IIRC, it is the Geen with Red stripe. Solid Red is the hot lead. Also, if you have an aftermarket head unit, it may provide for "remote power" which will supply 12V when the head unit is on...exactly what it is designed for is external amps and powered subs.



If you need a direct battery connection, getting out through the firewall isn't a huge deal and it can be done on either driver or passenger side. Driver side has some paths under the steering wheel and passenger side would be done behind the glove box area.

I have the setup that you're considering. And, I have 12g wire that runs under the carpet, up behind the glovebox to a hole in the firewall that's just aft of the battery cavity. If you go this route, make sure to use a anti-chaffing covering where the wire comes through the hole.

If you're running a sub-woofer [as I do] than a larger gage wire is required to handle the wattage and to avoid voltage drop. Additionally include a fuse just before the connection to the batt. My amp has a small [18g] wire for actually turning the unit on and the large gage wire provides the power feed.
