SubWoofer wiring???
#1

Ok, I'm going to try and get my amp and sub installed this weekend in my coupe and I have a question for the stereo experts...

My amp is a 2 channel 400 watts RMS can be configured either

2 x 100 watts 4 ohms

2 x 200 watts 2 ohms

1 x 400 watts 4 ohms

minimum impedance bridged is 4 Ohms

SubWoofer is 2 Ohm dual voice 50 to 300 RMS power handling.

My plan is to bridge the amp to (1 x 400 4 ohms) and connect the sub in series ( 2 + 2 ohms) for a matching 4 ohms system...

Does this make sense - best combination or is the a better combination?

Additial info - The sub is going in a KLA sealed box in the right cubby

thanks

Sam

did you check the volume requirements of the woofer? the kla is only .23 cu ft - i could not find a driver other than the one they specced that went down anywhere near that low - without enough volume, the low frequency response will dramatically suffer

Sealed .20 - .45 cu. ft. - I have the same one Ron (aka SilverBLT) has - so I've heard it in the car and it sounded good...just trying to figure the ohm thing.

If you have a subwoofer that is dual 2ohm voicecoils run a wire from the positive terminal on one voice coil to the negative terminal to the other voice coil, then run positive and negative to amp. That will run your subwoofer at 4ohms. giving your amp a 4ohm load. I attached a diagram that might help. Hope this helps Tate[Image: amp.jpg]

Bob, its a Image Dynamics ID Series subwoofer ID8D2 V.3

Tate - thanks, that what I was planning - figuring my sub can be configured to either 1 or 4 ohms I am assuming it would be better to match it at the 4 ohms to a bridged mono amp (400 watts @ 4 ohms).

Going positive to positive then negative to negative would give you a 1ohm load, which would be to low for your paticular amp. 4ohm bridged will be perfect and should sound really good. Image dynamics are nice subs, what kind of amp is it?
