CDR220
#1

Well, today I ordered a "B stock" Becker / Porsche CDR220 directly from Becker. I found the info on Rennlist (in the 993 forum - search for "Becker") and called this morning. A basically new CDR220 without box is $250- which they call "B stock". It may be refurbed, but I am not sure- doesn't matter to me. Comes complete with factory warranty, code, etc. Plus, if you want (especially for the cab guys), they will do the famous face plate mod to make it more legible. That is apparently not cheap though- $100. Since I wanted what I considered to be an OEM look, I went with the CDR220. Certainly not the best head unit out there, by any means, but hard to beat for OEM look / feel. I am also comfortable with this because I never listen to terrestrial radio anymore. Either iPod / Satellite / or CD. I also bought their simple $17 RCA adapter which I can use to play my iPod. The head unit won't control the iPod, but I don't care about that.

For those fellas and gals looking for more bang for the buck and new age look, stay away from the CDR220. Buy an Alpine / Sony / Clarion / etc. You'll be happier and get more features.

I can't wait to install it! Later in the Summer, I'll tackle the speakers... It's been a loooong time since I did speakers in a car!!!! I think I still have an old Rockford Fosgate Punch amp from the mod 90's floating around....! Good amps for the money then!

Probably have to talk with Flash about an economical component set to get....

Just a little FYI

I think I have one of those in the cabinet, now if I can only find the code. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Yes, when you figure out how to get the codes, let me know. I've bought 2 Pcars now that had working radios in them when purchased but after killing the battery, the code cars supplied with the radios didn't work and the PO didn't return phone calls. I think they had a higher quality radio in and put these in just before selling to me but got the wrong cards.

Several radios on eBay that do no have codes....one tends to assume that they are stolen and you'd not get the code from Porsche as they claim. One vendor in particular claimed the code for the radio was on the side by the S/N. Nope...just the serial number. Buyer beware.

I'm wondering what I can do with the radios that I have that don't have codes. I've since replaced them with other radios. I love the CDR-210. That's what's in my 968. I have a CD-210 (cassette player) that does have the code and I'm debating what to do with it.

I'm told that the CDR-220s have a screen that's hardly viewable in our cars unless you have the $100 fix done.

I bought it on eBay awhile back but the guy lives about 4 miles away by road or I can hike 1 mile through the woods to his house, she old his 928 and bought a Boxster - a small switch. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I have since put in Blaupunkt so I have not looked very hard since it did not have the cables- but he did give me the little amp that came with it.
