Alternator&A/C belt replacement
#1

My A/C/Alternator belt snapped today. Searching on this forum and on Clarks-garage I see high level instructions.

Question - what else should I replace or inspect while removing the power steering belt & A/C/Alternator belts?

Second question, is it easiest to work from underneath the engine for this work or above?

Got this car in July and it apparently wasn't well maintained.

carefully inspect the adjusters - they are known to break

big rule: when installing or adjusting either of those belts, do it with the mounting bolts of the associated units loose - after adjusting the belt, then tighten the mounting bolts to the correct torque - do not overtighten

you can do it from above, but i find it is easier to adjust from below - besides, then i get a chance to look around for leaks and such

Might as well change the PS belt while your changing belts.

Do you have a link to the Clark's Garage DIY? I have been searching there to no avail... my A/C Compressor belt is almost completely shredded so I am needing to do the same job.

Would like to hear back on how the procedure goes for you.

Thanks

It's under the Alternator DIY. http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/elect-01.htm

Also I'd probably add in replacing the ground and positive cables if your going to be working on the alternator. If there original they are probably due for replacement. There is a nice kit from one of the sites sponsors and a some good writeup's on it here.

Note: on the turnbuckle, one end will have a line or two cast into the end by one of the nuts. This is the end that is reverse threaded.
