Airbag Light Reset
#1

Just replaced the odometer gear in my wife's 968 cab. Did not//not remove the steering wheel, but I forgot to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery before removing the cluster. After reinstalling everything and buttoning her up, the airbag light and (!) would not go out. After doing a bit of research, it seems that I need to use the factory Bosch "Hammer" tool to reset the airbag. Does anyone know what would have caused the airbag light to kick on?

Also, because our registration is expired in Virginia (we just moved to MD), does anyone know a good shop in the Waldorf, MD area that can reset this light for us? I'd love to take it to our regular mechanic (Taylor at German Auto Group) but I just don't want to risk getting a ticket for having expired registration.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Normally, the airbag light won't trip simply by R&R'ing the instrument cluster. However, if you key the ignition with the cluster removed, that's an automatic light ON. I've got the Durametric software that will reset it so if you can't find anyone, come on down. Too bad you guys are way up in Waldorf now!!

any shop that works on these should have a reset tool. Mine came on after the battery drained & recharged. Took 5 minutes.

I should have mentioned that I started the car with the instrument cluster out. After doing some exhaustive research, it seems that there is no quick or easy way (short of taking her to the shop) to cure the airbag issue. I was hoping to use the fix on Clark's Garage, but unfortunately Porsche wised up for the 968.

Darryl, really appreciate the offer and we might need to take you up on it. I'm going to try and get our 968 in to the mechanic this Friday, but if he's too busy I might need your assistance. Plus, we really like where we found in MD! The roads out there are sparsely populated and are relatively smooth. My only complaint is driving in to VA every day for work. Are you going to the Cheseapeke Challenge this year?
