Advance posting of intended drive
#1

I plan to bring my white car to Newtown for September 13 and 14 to have Pete replace the DME wiring harness, replace all the engine sensors and do the major service to the belts, etc. I leaving home on Saturday, Sept 11 and will be arriving there sometime on Sunday. I do not know where any of you live but I seem to recall that there are numerous members in the "general" area. I don't want to go exceptionally far out of my way for fear of getting too lost but if anyone is on the general route I am always up for a rendezvous.

How long will you be staying? I definately want a chance to have drinks and dinner with you while you're in town. You have my # and my e-mail...

Just a reminder that this is still on. I am coming straight down from Ontario on I-something-or-other through Scranton(?) and will be by there on Sunday afternoon. Otherwise just heading straight to the Brick hotel in Newtown.

Ok so I have this all set now. No stops other than Newtown. May have some en route rants to post later.

Here I am. In Newtown. Just made it - the variocam switch was cutting in and out and the hall sender codes were sending me down the hall. Good times tomorrow. Or else I can't get home.

First day over. Let's see - new rad. New waterpump. New sensors, new variocam chain and pads, new (to me) intake plenum, valve cover and vanity cover, new DME harness, and tomorrow isn't even here yet!! Wahoo!

There really needs to be a legislated upper limit to the amount of fun one man can have on vacation.

I wonder if I would call spending money on maintenance as "fun".
Ah... I get it! It just means that you will have less headaches / worries when your driving around!
OK... have LOTS of fun!

Well well well. So the head on my car died IMMEDIATELY following the test drive after installation of the new wiring harness, water pump, radiator, engine sensors, variocam chain and pads, cam belt, balance shaft belt, and miscellaneous new wires and do-dads. Absolutely amazing timing for this because had it died one start later I would have been 400 km away from Newtown and been rather unhappy at my predicament. It is not repairable. I had to take a plane home and will need to come back in a bit to get it. So Pete and Max are looking for another. Yes, that veiled post by Pete is for me. May just now elect to do the rings also and have a new car.

Anybody need an 08 Cayman S with 40K kilometers?

it always amazes me how things connect - it also amazes me at how these engines run with so much wrong - apparently the timing was so far off that it ran, even though thins were wonky, but as soon as things were timed correctly, it no longer ran

bummer to find it out like that, but the good news is that it will feel so much better when it is running right

i'd go the whole way, given how much mileage is on it, and then enjoy it for a very long time - otherwise, you'll be back in there before too long, and again wondering why you kept the car

On a happy note, I can't imagine a place on Earth I'd rather my 968 die. Reminds me of the time that Mark's waterpump blew, 200 feet UPHILL from RSB.

She'll be good as new and you'll be back in love again soon.

Final report. What's new:

Head gasket
flywheel
engine mounts
variocam chain and pads
main bearings
rod bearings
piston rings
new head
Oil pickup tube
DME wiring harness
all new engine sensors
rear hatch removed and resealed
oil pump
all belts, seals, etc.
oil pan gasket

Love and care added at no additional cost.

And some funky black lettering on the vanity cover.

Drives like new, probably mostly is new.

was fun and, like Arnold, Ah'll be bach.
