After all the work that was done on my 968 recently, I decided that I should go to the local P-club Saturday morning drive. Got up at 4:30 am to meet up at my son's place at 5:00 so we could drive 45 minutes to reach the "start" point. Over 40 cars showed up for a nice drive up the Sea-to-Sky highway (could be one of the nicest highways in the world - IMHO).

Drive went great, car fells ubber planted with new shocks and struts.

My son's car is the 2017 Boxster Spyder (red) next to my 968.


   
Yes... for those who are wondering... there was an imposter in our group!

The yellow Ferrari - he is buddies with one of the Pcar owners, so got to come along as a "guest".

I was even miffed at a 968 owner that drove his 928 to a celebration, and don't get me started on the "Boxster incident" at Hershey

I'm not a Ferrari connoisseur , but I thought I'd recognize some of the more popular models ..just have not seen that rear lights configuration before ( more specifically , the " inset " running inward from the lights ) What model is that ?


Of course that's because I never see the rear end of a Ferrari, they're ALWAYS behind me . :-) :-)

That's a 458 Speciale I think. The regular one has 3 tailpipes in the middle. But there is definitely something different about the rear if compared to other pictures. Maybe a different bumpershield or whatever.

Hey, stop that ! I'm buying a Maserati GT in a couple of weeks and they have Ferrari engines in them, so I don't want to hear anything about " breakdowns " .

When I had my Austin-Healey I had a t-shirt that said "I'd rather be pushing my Healey than driving a Triumph". I guess that's true of Italian cars too.

Yeah, leave it to me to jump into something based on looks alone ( ok, sound also ) . Discovered that timing belts replacement intervals are at a mere 10,000 miles . Cost for the job - approx $ 3 K . Cost if the belt breaks - approx $ 20,000 . And that's assuming only top end / valves damage .

Woah,that puts the 968 timing belt issue to shame. No one can even complain about the 968 belt replacement again. 10,000 mi? That's like annual maintenance, or at least every other year. But it will look good parked in your garage. Maybe I'll just stick with the poster on the wall :-)

Yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous ! There's no reason for this other than to rake in money for the dealerships service departments . Gates claims all of their belts ( and they do make them for Ferraris and Maseratis ) are made to last at the very least 50,000 mi. so there's no reason to believe the 10 K mi interval is " needed " or even remotely a prudent measure . But the problem is if you have any kind of warranty on the car, and use non dealer supplied parts or have it serviced anywhere other than a dealer, the entire warranty is voided , regardless of what may have failed and if it was arguably related in any way to the service you had performed . What a scam ! But as long as they get away with it, why not ?! . Still far better than the draconian service requirements on the Bigatti Veyron , although I don't have to worry about that ,lol.

The P-club organized a transaxle water pumper event!

The most interesting part was that there were 6 cars with a female companion! The highest ratio I have ever witnessed at a local P-event. Proves to my wife that when I told her I needed the 968 because it would be good for our relationship, I was right!
