AC voltage drop
#1

While driving my son's 92 968 and turning on the ac.... the voltage drops from 13.5 volts to around 12 volts. Already replaced the alternator and battery. Is this normal? It really seems to lug the engine down. Any advice?

With the new alternator was the volatge regulator also changed? There is a higher voltage adjustable regulator that I posted a topic on here.

Also of course clean all your grounds...

Yep, brand new regulator. I'm sure it really shouldn't lug the motor down that much. I'm going to check all the grounds this weekend.

Mine does put a load on the electrical system but I have gotten it to where it isn't to bad. I had a apparent hot running condition with electrical load (A/C, lights, etc) and went thru everything electrical on the car and it is much better now.

Anything specifically in the wiring? Thought about replacing the wire going to the alternator witha much heavier one along with the starter wire. Think it'll make a difference?

Pretty much pulling all the grounds off and they are a lot of them around the car and cleaning them up. My alternator cable wasn't in the best shape when I pulled it off, the insulation on the cable broke away leaving a exposed cable, so I just taped it up for now. I really need to find some good replacement ground and power leads off the battery, since the passing of Dan Wray (Icseshark) there haven't been any really good cables out on the market.
