ABS Light

Hi all


Well it's been a while! Porsche has been sitting out side in all weathers for a year, unused , but now I have built a garage for it.


One problem I have is ABS light comes on, I will explain, ignition on Abs light on, start engine it goes out.

However above 5mph or so if you press the brake pedal the warning light comes on and antilock brake light.


Fluid is fine, pedal seems fine , any idea what could cause this, I thought Wheel sensor, but would that not put the light on without pressing the pedal., mine only comes on when pedal pressed.

ABS Relay,

 

Can you hear the pump buzz at about 3 mph as it primes?

 

if not it could be the relay or the pump is seized, if you can get on PCGB forum I posted a massive help for ABS on there, shame your so far away from me or I would offer to help

Hi


Thanks for info, can't hear pump, never could really, I am puzzled as it was fine before I stopped using it, may try a relay as cheapest first. Worse thing is car needs MOT so I need to get it working. Any idea who is cheapest for ABS relay?

I have a set of pump top relays as well.

 

The relay part number 928.625.124.03

 

the normal cause is if your scuttle drains have got blocked up with crap the water runs down the side of the washer bottle neck and soaks the skilfully placed ABS pump

Well, same deal here: rev counter died for a few seconds, then the abs light came on. After a certain speed it comes on.


I tested the relay, which is fine. So the next, logical thing to do was to get the sensors out and make sure they and the toothed rotors were clean.


All went well, the front ones came out easily.


The rear ones however, certainly did not:



   



The aluminium did a good job of 'assimilating' the sensor. It wouldn't budge a freakin' mm. So the top came off and I had to drill, cut, hack and scrape my way through it. The white stuff you see at the edge of the hole is presumably oxidation material. The center of the sensor is pretty tough material too.


After quite some hours of taking out bits and pieces all is well:



   



When ordering new ones I noticed that I had the -00 version of the part, with a metal casing. The updated -02 one (as mentioned in the PET) has a plastic casing. For a good reason I guess.

So if you got a '92 with the original ones still in there and one ceases to function, you are in for quite some fun!


One done, one more to go. Luckily the retainer bolt of that one snapped too, because I like drilling steel bits out of aluminium.

Lol, if you look at it that way... The sheared off bolt was also encased in the white stuff. I literally broke a punch when knocking the remains of the drilled bolt of the inner side of the hole. I'm very lucky a helicoil could fix it. The steel literally had become part of the car.

All went well, yes. There is definitely a difference, altough maybe not as much as I expected. Maybe your steering shaft had more play than mine. In any case, I'm glad I did it, the steering feels great.

I had to do mine as it was getting tighter as it got hotter up by the exhaust manifold (RHD)


In the summer it was horrid.


Not a bad fix for 30 euros
