But then, so does mine and I'd sell it in a heartbeat for 1/2 that much, and maybe 4-5 heartbeats for 1/3 (if I were looking to sell).

I always thought I would keep mine forever, but the fact that it really isn't useful to me as a "practice race car", and it definitely isn't any good as a street car (way too stiff, no AC or radio, etc.) means it makes no sense for me to keep it.  It's a very capable track car (pretty much nothing keeps up with me in the corners, but it's heavily modified), but as I said, it just doesn't replicate the experience of driving an actual race car.

I had the same thought.  I read through the ad pretty quickly, so I thought I must have missed something.  Looks like a $30K car to me, tops, but the market will bear what the market will bear.  I guess as cars from the 968's era (e.g. the Supra, RX7, MR2 turbo, etc.) appreciate, cars like the 968, which by my recollection always brought up the rear in the contemporary comparison tests run by the magazines, will naturally be brought along for the appreciation ride.  But $64K?!

My buddy told me a coupe with blue wheels sold yesterday on eBay for $97K. eBay doesnt archive auctions like BaT, so I can only assume it was a Club Sport.



Which begs the question: WTF would you sell a club sport on eBay? Perhaps it was a clone.



FWIW, looking through the eBay auctions, it looks like Cabs are getting more love there than in BaT. Still, most are >$20K. Id be ecstatic if I could get $30 for mine.

The reason I mentioned that this might be a Canadian car was its odometer would be in kilometers which might not be as desired by US buyers & the costs to import it to the US might negatively impact the final winning bid. Of course, maybe the buyer wasn't from the US?



In any event, not only has the price of 912s & 914s gone up, but the condition of some that have been restored is astounding. Cars that would have been used only for parts 10 yrs ago are being reborn. Partly, this is due to availability of newly reproduced parts. You can get parts today that were unavailable 30 years ago.



The 356 hulks that are being restored is even more shocking...

BaT is a capricious market. Earlier this month, two well-turned Thunder Ranch 550 replicas only bid to ~$40K. One was extensively modded to resemble an original: working jack points, working church keys, original barber pole interior, replica dual fuel pumps, replica 547 engine tin/VC/oil fill etc, etc. Should have been an $80-$90K car.



In June two run of the mill Becks went for $61 and $68K.
