9 Magazine under new ownership
#1

9 Magazine has been purchased.

I have had a few conversations with the new owner, and have very high hopes for the magazine. The new owner is very excited about the potential, and has a LOT of plans.

The magazine is also going back into print form with the next issue.

You can also count on 968 content in most every issue.

The new publisher is also looking for DIY content, and not just for 968s. If you have a DIY article on any Porsche, please put it together. He is happy to publish it.

He will be coming onto the site in the near future to introduce himself, and talk about upcoming plans.

This is VERY cool news!!!

lol - no

i first got involved when i had the idea for the chip shootout test, when i could not get straight information from any of the chip manufacturers - i had pitched it to excellence, but they didn't bite - 9 Magazine did - so, i had each company send me a chip and i did the test and wrote the article showing the results - i then put the winner in my car as the "spoils of war"

then, after speaking with the publisher at the time, i started writing more for them

then they made me the 968 editor

then, as i tend to do, i got further entangled, and became managing editor for a while

all of this sounds like much more than it really is - even excellence is a very small operation - most magazines are

now, there is a new guy who bought it

i have submitted my first article in quite some time, and am in the middle of 3 others, which will appear over the next few months

i don't intend to be further involved than merely a writer - my plate is too full, and i like not being subject to any limitations regarding the content (i.e. featuring advertisers and doing puff pieces)

Good luck to whoever bought the magazine. But I suspect that it is very hard to make a profit with a print-based publication in today's economy without charging an arm and a leg for subscriptions.

well, they have both print and electronic, and as with most magazines, it is a very limited operation, so the margin isn't as bad as you might think

I couldn't get past all the bad spelling on the old mag.

there were far too many typos - editing things like that, even with spell-check, is an incredible job - during the brief period that i was editing, i was stunned at how many things would slip through spell-check - when you start talking about an article in which you have no interest, it makes the job doubly difficult

they are actively seeking more DIY articles, and not just 968 stuff either, so if you have one, or want to write one, go for it

I look forward to getting my hands on one as well. Would like to see what direction and writing style comes with the new format.
