a/c compression mount bolt replacement
#1

As you some may know, the A/C compressor has two separate bolts attaching the compressor to the car.  Each bolt is different diameter.  One bolt from each side passing through mounting bracket and finally threading into the a/c compressor housing.

One of the inner threads of my a/c compressor housing got stripped.  Probably because at some point

someone didn't tighten the belt correctly.  Anyhow, it got retapped by a repair shop. However, after vibration at high revs it backed out all the way again and fell out. This caused the A/C pulley to tilt out of alignment from engine pulley.  thus throwing both the a/c-alternator and p/s belt. Damage the p/s pump in the process.  fun.

Since the bolt got lost when it fell out, I got a new bolt from the Porsche parts list and remounted it with BLUE lock tight. After waiting 24 hrs to set, I drove the car at high revs only to find the bolt quite loose again.

Anyone else experience this?

Its just so frustrating to have it back out by itself again even with BLUE lock tight.  Any alternate solutions to using the stock bolts? i.e. longer bolts and lock nuts?

I had that problem, Alan at A&P took care of it. I think the shop drilled it and put in a through bolt. Problem solved. Bet they're slow right now as it's not Westy season yet... Smile

Thats interesting. They are the one's who re-tapped my a/c and it fell out again. When did you have your done?  Wonder why they did't simply do that to mine as well.  It was retapped last spring.

I would check with them, they stand behind their work and they should take care of it.

I re-checked my invoice for that repair - it mentions that the threads were stripped and they put in a through-bolt with a nut on the back.
