2008 Hershey Swap Meet
#21

Paul,

Thanks for posting the pictures. This was clearly the best weather we've had for all the hershey events to date. Not a single drop of rain. We had a blast seeing everyone.

Just for kicks, here is a quick video of the lineup of our cars in front of the hotel and then at the swap meet parking lot.

made it back safely - no issues

i was in atlanta when i posted earlier, and could barely type on the iphone

i want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who welcomed me with such open arms - it was a little overwhelming - always a pleasure to see everyone - i had more fun sitting and chatting with you all than i did at the rest of the event (by a long shot) - that is really why we go to these things, right?

jay - thanks again for everything - once again, had a wonderful time

as for the whole "boxster thing", i pulled in behind the line just before the scheduled departure, thinking that everyone was already lined up - i didn't know don was running late, and that more cars were lining up - of course i was going to let everyone go by me - the only reason i had that car there at all was so that i could bring it to pete so he could get to don's without having to strike the booth first, leaving max and i to strike the booth and join up with him later (didn't exactly work out that way though, as another booth blocked in the trailer)

not sure why anybody would have thought i would have stuck the boxster in the caravan, or parked it in the group - clearly that would have been bad form - but, sometimes somebody has to gripe, just to be a pain - i had a great time anyway, and still found my way there, even after i got separated from the group

side note - it would have been nice to have directions to the event, and not had to rely on the caravan or dead reckoning

however, the trailer debacle was a happy accident - when we got back to pick it up, rdhayward was there, as was another new member - had we not gone back, we would not have met - i am still stunned that he drove that far to see everyone, only to find them gone - glad he made it though - a fine example to all you sissies who didn't make it - lol - get your sorry butts to these events, your car or a borrowed one - just go

it was indeed a much nicer event this year, and bigger than last year - i still didn't find anything i wanted, but then, i don't really buy used parts - it wasn't about that for me anyway - i just came for the people and the beer

i did get around to helping a few folks out, and see some owners get excited about their cars and what new fun they were going to have with them - that is always a pleasure for me

i look forward to seeing you all again soon

OK, here's my 5 cents worth. It certainly was great meeting old faces and seeing some new ones. Met Paul Anthony and his lovely wife. Mentioned that I had his video with his 968 and wife as stars. We didn't have as good a location as we usually do (next to the concours cars) but we attracted a lot of Porschefiles looking with some envy at the 20+ cars lined up. I did notice that the 928 people decided to have their own lineup. What a bunch of copy cats. It was great to have Kathy Downs bring her sumpuous spread of nibbles, wine and beer. She definetly knows how to be a gracious hostess. It was a small miracle that she can get everything into her cab. Then again here comes Flash from the other coast. What a trooper. No one can say he's not a 968 enthusiast even though his critiques of the 968 are sometimes a downer. I have asked why Don doesn't give out maps and/or directions to these events so that people don't get lost but I was glad I had my Garmin for the trip to his place for the tech seesion. Speaking of which we all got a good scare from Pete and Matt on things that can go wrong with the 968s. I don't know if that was a good thing as I listened for every odd sound and bump on the way home. And to Don for putting the "Gathering" together again. You are to be commended for you effort and what a spiffy garage he has. His cars never had it so plush. I always amazed at how devoted 968 owners are and the care they take with maintaining their cars. Then we had the 3 guys from Germany. Talk about long distance prize. I think they got a new perspective on how the US folks like the 968. I was also amazed that they had 2 yes 2 Turbo S's in their group. Would be great to attend one of their events. The weather certainly cooperated this time. I bought some RS Spyder posters for the walls at the new IMA Motorsport facility and some car care products. Saw one Saratoga top in bad shape and passed. I heard there was one in excellent condition but was sold for $750. I guess it's not meant to be.

My rambling is over.

Flash,

As soon as I read you first post I KNEW you were typing on an iPhone. Got to love that autocorrect! On an unrelated sidenote, the website always runs great for me on the iPhone!

Ok, back on track now. Looks like it was a great event! Thanks to everyone for sharing pics with the rest of us who were unable to make it!

Some thoughts from a new 968 guy and a non-attender. Firstly, Paul the video is so cool. It really makes this a live experience. Until I saw that everyone on the site was pretty virtual for me (except for the few that I have PMd or called as I have negotiated this P madness). Everyone now is a real person with a real, real nice car.

Secondly - Jeff the mint green is just awesome. What a great color.

Thirdly - Pardon my ingorance wrt your name, but the woman with the blue cab - man wha a show stopper.

I am really impressed with how wickedly good all those 68s look together.

Can someone tell me about the right rear placement of the 968 moniker on the red cab? I saw that once before on a black cab and thought it was a bad body repair job - maybe not.

[[size=3]size=6][font=Courier New][size=5]Hi everyone, just a note to say how great the weekend was of the 968 Gathering. It was so nice to see everyone again and meet new people. Doreen and Richard came which was great and Richard even let me use his bucket to wash my car, thats a friend indeed. I wish I had gotten to talk to everyone one but time went by so fast this year. I guess there was so much to see at the swap meet it took time. The tail gate party was real[size=6] cool and thanks for organizing it. Don does one fantastic job of putting these things together he really is a leader type and makes it seem easy, but I know it is not.

Hope everyone has a fun summer and a good year looking forward to next years gathering, Ginger and Charlie. P.S. Paul the pictures are just great memories of the weekend and the video also. Thanks for taking them. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
