I desperately need to reupholster the driver seat in my 1992 but I have a set that I pulled out of my 1994 (entirely new interior into the '94 from a wrecked car). So my question is, are the later model seats noticeably better than the earlier seats? I know the 1992 seats are the same as the 944 seats. They look different but not sure if it is worth the money to completely reupholster both seats out of the '94 as opposed to just reupholstering the front leather portion of the driver's seat currently in the '92, at a cost of $450. One possible benefit of the '94 seats is the driver is a full power seat, a $538 option at the time (I have the original window sticker).

I've had both and didn't find the feel much different at all. I like the look of the later seats, but not enough to spend money to change the seats out. I have manual sports seats now, and would spend money to have those...

I started a project about a year ago that I have't finished turning early style sports seats into late model heated sports seats. I consulted the 968 Parts manual on the onset and found that the internal structure/frame is the same part # in both early and late style seats (sport seats being the same as well with their own number as they have an additonal support welded to the frames.
The only difference bewtween the early and late seats that came in our 968s is the cushion and the seat covers them selves.

Excellent information! Just saved me at least a grand. I'm going to drop off my '92 driver's seat today. Thanks guys.
Great upholstery guy in Los Angeles near Glendale, if anybody is looking around here. Will do Porsche leather on seating surface, with perforation, for $450. He already did my steering wheel and shifter for $250 total, and did a perfect job. In Northern California, I know a guy who also does a great job at a good rate just out of Sacramento, in Auburn.

If I was re-doing seats I'd look for 928 covers, which I believe have deeper padding than the 944 but fit the same frame.

The other thing you may want to look into is finding a used set of the Sport seats for the front. I see them from time to time for ~$800-1100 on ebay in good condition (3-500 needing reupholstery). It could be a nice time to upgrade <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
