17" CUP WHEELS
#1

Will 17" rear 9" cup wheels fit on the front? If so would using two sets of rears be a good budget setup for autocross? Probably a dumb idea, but I already have a set of 17" cups that I don't want to sell and I could easily find another pair of rears.

I am sure they will fit, since my 18 inch wheels are 8 and 1/2 wide in the front with no problems. If you run the 9x17 rear size in the front as well you can also benefit from the ability to roatate the wheels and equalize the wear. I used to run 8x16 all around and it worked fine. I am searching for a set of 9x17 rear wheels if you know where I can buy them. Thanks, Good luck, Bob bBackwell

i was just having this conversation on the phone today

the answer all depends on the offset, tire size and model, ride height and camber

my case was the absolute limit on fitment - HRE went to great lengths to cram it in there - i have a 57mm offset on an 18 x 9, with a 255/35/18 S0-3, with 628mm fender to ground, and -1.5 degrees camber, and i barely clear both the stock spring diameter and fender edge - if it were a 17, it would hit the spring

according to my little wheel chart, the 9 x 17 cup wheel is 55mm offset, and as such, in a 255/40, i think it will stick out a touch with a wide tire model (like an S0-3), but might not with a narrow model (like a Pilot Sport)

at stock ride height and camber angles, this may not be a problem - lowered, it probably will be

I was thinking about these, but the offset is 47.

47 will hang out up front - that's what i had on my replicas - i threw one up there, just for giggles - i had a sudden urge to hang dingle balls in the windshield, install hydraulics, and run out and buy some crack

That must be the most politically incorrect thing I've read in a long time, posted by a democrat none-the-less. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

roflmao - oh sure - it's ok to poke fun at me for EXACTLY the same thing about the wheels on my denali, but let me use the imagery..........

but it does paint the picture in your head, doesn't it?

that whole "poltically correct" thing drives me nuts - i'm a drunk mick - so what? sure doesn't bug me when comics make jokes about the irish - it's funny, and it's true - i thnk we really need to get over ourselves

and while we're at it, let's bring back corporal punishment in the schools too

as a society, we've gotten way too touchy feely, and blame our problems on everybody but ourselves - time to toughen up

oops - just fell off my soapbox

did i mention i was a drunk mick? tarbender - another one over here

I could use the 47s in the rear and the 55s in the front? Would the 47s hang out in the rear also? Remember, these would be for track days and auto x only. Oh and how well would the hydraulic suspension work in auto X.

47 in the rear on a 17 x 9 is fine - that is exactly what i had back there when i bought the car, and it worked great

55 up front on a 17 x 9 will depend on the tire chosen and such - i would hit the fender with a 55 on my setup, but if i raised the car a bit, or chose a narrower tire i would clear too

OEM 17x9 ET55 wheels will fit up front, but not with stock camber. I've been doing it for years for autocross and DE/TT events. You need about 2.5+ degrees of camber to fit. Of course tire tread width will make a difference. I'm using Toyo RA1's. I've posted on this in the past. Search for my posts and you'll find more details on my setup. You can actually make 275 Toyo's fit, but not without a lot of spring rate and I don't think our cars need that much tire up front. Only use the factory wheels. They are MUCH lighter than the aftermarket CUP wheels. Much lighter. You can find OEM wheels on eBay and in salvage yards all the time. 993 CUP wheels are the same thing.

Here are a couple pictures with 9x17ET55 all around. The wheels in my sig are 8.5x17 and 10x17 CCW's.
