LOVE that - no variocam though - i wonder what that cost them in terms of power and response?

No power loss after removing vario..because (if you look closely) you can see the big turbo with black heat cover behind the throttle plate. As far as removing variocam and placing two cam pulleys, this is done so that valve overlap(which is in excess with vario intact for turbo application) can be controlled. Of course, you can set the overlap to a fixed position and use one adjustable pulley (400$ each from europe at Deutch9)

I wonder which is better:

single belt with two cam pullies
or
single belt and cam chain

Distance between belts gives me hebe gebes-May be fine but....I would consider smaller roller (like steel 944) to control slap.
Sure looks pretty

No, not yet. But I finally found the right shop for milling the block for Darton sleeves and the other work I have planned. Just picked up the 'other' intake cam. Will be sending out the engine in the fall if everything goes as planned...

Pete: I agree with you on the distance...perhaps a belt guide. Arc of pulley coverage seems more than enough compared to some of these other high revving engines . Some other engines I have worked on have less and more cam gear coverage and length of belt between pulley.

Hey I'll finally be going to the shop and can check on that head for you. I'll also dig around and "inventory" all 968 parts they may have on have on hand.

This weekend I noticed that a 928 inlet cam must fit as mounted in these engine. The inletcamshaft has a beltpulley.
I was looking at two heads from a 928 when I regonised the construction made as Xrad show on his picture. This is a standard part that will fit in a 968 engine.? I have to look if the patterns is the same. A 928 is still a v8. And could have possible an other diagram.
There was also something differtent I noticed as well. Because there is one position possible of the shaft where all the valves are closed. Maybe this is why some of us have luck when the belt breaks. And mostly the other not.....

928 S4 cam gear has one MORE tooth (lack of variocam adjustment) on cam sprocket and lobe profile is less aggressive.

but will fit. because the teeth from the variocam you don't need anymore. Or do you mean the pulley from the belt?
the lobe profile can be redesigned?
