Just replaced my fuel pump:

The pump I took out had the following number:Bosch 0 580 464 042
and I replaced it with Bosch 0 580 464 069 (Apparently it has been superceded)

So are these parts NLA from Porsche , or cheaper elsewhere ? ( can't imagine the MBZ check valve is much cheaper then Porsche .. Is it ? )

Regarding the Rennbay aluminum belts cover featured in Kwikt's recent post - around ten years ago when I had the first belts change job done, the rear half of the OEM cover cracked and chipped right where one of the fastening bolts goes in so it could no longer be secured in place. Porsche advised that to the ( OE ) cover was NLA at any of their dealers either in the US , or anywhere else , according to their data base.. I was lucky enough to find one at a salvage yard but IIRC it was ridiculously expensive for a used part..I think about $ 300 or $ 400 ... In any event, I have no idea if Porsche has had those manufactured again and restocked the part since then, but if it's still NLA, this Rennbay unit may be a great find, and not just for the aesthetics of it..

Duralast Starter bought from " Autozone" Part number 011340 #180.00 less the other starter as trade in #025172 credit of $70.00 net cost $108 (as of 6/1 2010)

It is a direct fit and replaces the OEM starter and came with a lifetime guarantee to boot. I think the OEM starter at the time cost around $600

Are the “aftermarket” ones OE on another car ( VW, etc ? ) or simply made to fit a 968 , by some supplier ?  If the latter, quite honestly I’d stay away from anything manufactured in China .. which unfortunately nowadays is a large percentage of stuff, and quality / reliability hasn’t gotten much better .

ds968,

I don't know where they are made.   Here are a list of choices  on Pelican parts.

When I had mine replaced the mechanic told me that the cheap ones last about a year. They are thinner and not filled with anything but air. I went with the non-Porsche branded OEM parts. Been great for a couple of years so I guess it was worth the difference.

My mechanic also puts a thick fender washer under the right side mount to raise it up just a smidgen to get more airflow. He claims it helps the mounts to last a lot longer without any reduction in reliability. He has been working on these cars since they were new and he was young so he has seen a lot of failures and come up with some solutions.
