WINDSHIELD
#1

On a recent drive home I was sniped by a roadside rock which did some damage to the windshield, roughly a quarter to silver dollar sized chip which doesn't appear to have any cracks coming out of it just yet. I have GEICO glass protection with a $50 deductible but they'll waive it if I just repair the glass. Otherwise I pay $50 for a new windshield....not too bad but I'm wondering if breaking the factory windshield seal is a good idea and if my insurance will increase if I go thru with the replacement instead of repair. A new widnshield would be nice as there are a couple of other defects that have been repiared by a previous ownder, nothing major but I like things relatively straight. Also, if I do replace, do I go with the windshield with the slightly tinted band at the top or just clear?? Any opinions??

Thank you,

Mick

Welcome to the 968 community Mick! I had my windshield replaced right after I bought the car and I went back with the Shaded tint on it. Like the way it blocks sunshine where the visor doesn't cover. Three weeks after I got the new windshield I got another rock chip! Now it is three years later and I have about four small bullseye chips which I have repaired. Looking forward to replacing it again someday soon, but know it will not last long. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Hi Mick,

Most insurance companies will replace the glass if you are not satisfied with the repair. So, the only thing you have to lose with the repair is the little bit of time that it takes to get it done. Most repair companies come to you, so it can be done at your convenience.

Personally, if the windshield is in otherwise good shape, I would opt for the repair first. But...that's just me.

Best,

WA
