Wind deflectors really work!
#1

Just got through installing a rear wind deflector from Sunset. I no longer have to worry about my favorite Jose Quervo hat ending up on the road behind me! It's not the cheapest, but the list price is something like $617.00!! Sunset? $364 plus freight. Thanks to all those who said to go for it!

yeah, i love mine too, as much of a pain as it is to put the top up and down (becuase i use the boot)

that's why the roll bar design absolutely had to be able to accomodate it

I use my deflector, and my top boot, all the time without it being a pain at all. Maybe we do it differently. I keep the boot flap at the front, that goes into the trunk, connected at all times. When I have to put the top up, I disconnected all of the other connectors, put the sides of the boot between the deflector the back of the front seats, put the main boot material on the flat section of the deflector, and raise the top. Before putting the top down, I do a quick check to verify that the boot material has moved onto the top rest area, and then reverse the process. With this approach, I find it much easier to use the boot with the deflector in place than when it's not.

yeah - the extra step of removing it, and putting it in the bag is a pain - that is a solution that would make it easier for sure - i'll have to give it a try to see if it still works now with the modified windscreeen - the horizontal section sits lower now, and farther back

Now I understand. From the very few times I've had to do it, removing and then installing the boot while the windscreen is in place is a task designed to produce expletives.

I leave my attached in the front when I put the top up, also. Works well.

    lol, I sent this photo to flash yesterday - here's what happens when you drive the cab without wind deflectors... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

i don't know how my picture got on this post! i look better now with my hair cut.

thanks for the picture of the wind screen. how does the frame attach? i'm guessing that it mounts somewhere near the existing bar on the cargo holder?

The windscreen has four mounting points plus two elastic straps. There are two posts at the forward edge that go into openings in plugs that replace the existing flat plastic plugs in the left and right side rear compartment panels (there are the plugs that provide access to the nuts that disconnect the power operation if you go to manual top operation or have other operating problems). Then, there are two arms that reach out from the rear edge and get inserted into openings in the upper section of the lock mechanism that holds the rear upholstered sections in place (above the package shelf). The two elastic straps attach to arms in the lock mechanism. So - there's nothing that touches the cargo holder.

Mine has the rear seat standard on early cars, can I still use the windscreen?

No problem. In fact, subsequent to the time that the photo was taken, I removed the package shelf/boxes and installed rear seats.

Really? As much as I like the idea of a wind deflector and/or roll bar I thought it would interfere with the back seats - I'll have to have another look!

Whoa - just a minute. What I meant is that the windscreen can easily be installed and used in a car that has rear seats. I DID NOT mean that someone can sit in the seat while the windscreen is installed - although, if the person is small (short - really, really short) and not claustrophobic, it probably can be done. However, when I take my 5-yr. old grandson with me, the windscreen comes out.

From what I've seen of the roll bar design that Flash has developed, the rear seat will be usable with the bar installed. The windscreen will also be usable with the bar installed - but with the same limitation noted above.

Oh. okay, that makes a difference. I frequently carry my kids around in the car and can't really make it any tighter for them than it already is.

Wind deflector/screen is inbound from Sunset (shipped last week and is due in mid this week).

Quick quesiton:

I'm assuming that there no issues with opening/closing a cab top with the deflector installed?
