Where to buy a new Porsche
#1

Are there any locations that it is cheaper to buy a new car, as I live in Portland OR, where there is only one dealership, Sunset?

Would going to a California dealership save any money as there is lots of competition?

dealerships are franchises, so prices can vary widely.  i have 7 dealerships within 50 miles, and the prices between them is all over the map.

Dealerships here do set their prices all over the map as Flash mentioned, but I have been told over and over again by people who bought new Porsches that the respective Porsche dealers will not negotiate the price of a new car ( as opposed to pre-owned ones on the lot ) by even by one penny , and they would rather let it sit in inventory for as long as it takes. Maybe that's only on the base price on which they don't budge, but you could get some deals on the options cost ? Still, I find that difficult to believe given the competition is often half hour to an hour away drive around these parts or in SoCal. The same no negotiation rule is said to be the case for Ferrari dealerships , but that one I do believe - no manufacturer is more anal-retentive about their selling principles than Ferrari.

yup - when i sat down for my initial packaging, i already had them dropping $7k off the final price at one dealership, while another one would not budge.

We have several "difficult" dealers in northern Nevada. Many of the locals travel to Idaho and find the savings to be substantial. One dealer in Boise will even fly you up and still make you a great deal.

I could be wrong, but I think the dealers' markup on the factory invoice is very low, whereas the markup on the options are astronomical and where they make most of their money . Not different than restaurants : barely a 3% -5% profit on food. vs anywhe from 200% to 500 + % on drinks .

For a non-exotic at least, it also matters When you buy. They have to make forecasts and quotas, so end of month, or especially end of quarter are likely to put you in a much better bargaining position if you know how to play it.
