Where is this leak coming from?
#1

Pulled the underbelly pans off and found this. I'm pretty sure it's the oil pan gasket.

What do you guys think?

looks like maybe front main seal to me - you can proably get under there and pull the lower part of the timing belt cover loose, pry it forward a bit, and see if oil drips out, or it's wet in there

woops! - my bad - not sure what i was thinking - sorry - looking at it from the wrong side

actually looks like you have 2 leaks

one looks like the power steering running down along the swaybar

the other is coming fromthe driver side, perhaps the pan - take a good look along the side of the engine to see if there is anything else running down the side, or if it starts at pan height

Michael,

Always hard to tell where these things start. I had similar drippings from the PS pump - and traced it up to the flange that holds the oil cooler hoses to the front of the engine, just above the PS Pump. It is secured with one Allen cap bolt and in my case it was loose to turn. I tightened it by hand with allen wrench (do not know the Torque spec?) and that improved my drips problem (at the front of the motor anyway).

Now I just need to fix the leak at the oil filler pipe? Funny thing, dispite these drops on the garage floor the oil level on the dipstick has not changed a bit in 2000 miles

Good luck - Jacks Cobalt 968 Cab

Another possibility is the seal on the front of the lower balance shaft. Have you ever changed any of your front engine seals? Not too bad of a job to do while you are changing belts. You might want to remove your upper belt cover to make sure you are not getting oil on the belts. When the front engine seals start to leak it gets on your belts and throws oil everywhere inside the belt covers.
